are early Mamod SR hub caps push on

are the hub caps off a Mamod nut and bolt roller push on like the caps on the SR1A

Yes they are. In fact they come on and off more easily than the later type. Just lever them off with a screw driver or pliers.

thanks roly, i plan to strip and paint the wheels, any hints for masking the old style wheels

Hmm - tricky. I've never repainted the old style rolls and I can't see an easy way of masking. All I can suggest is to use several short lengths of masking tape overlapping the paint and then cut round the inner rim with a sharp knife.

Mick if you're spraying the wheels put a smear of grease or vasoline where you cant mask and wipe it off after paint.
