ArtPost up your artwork here (must be done by hand, not generated on a PC). I'm fairly good at drawing everyday objects, not so good on detailing. My train was cancelled this morning, so very randomly drew a station sign on the opposite platform to me:

Great off topic thread . . .
As peeps know, I earn a crust doing 'arty' things . . .
But I have always illustrated and drawn since I was 2 or 3.
I studied illustration a College and wanted to be a freelance illustrator at one point . . .
I used to be a profilic illustrator and sell them for a bit of extra cash . . .
I dont do as many now, not by a long chalk, in fact the main stuff I do now is the Mac generated images of steam engines and logos. I do stiull make frames and produce mounts. I have 500+ pictures in my house . . .
The Fountain, 1987, 20x 30in mixed media (Acrylic, pastel and pencil)
Another from a series of extreme perspectives . . .
The Sun dial, 1987, 20 x 28in
Fountain detail.
I loved the concept of 'mysterious gardens'.
I love butterflies and studied them quite avidly.
British Buterflies, 1985, 20x30in. Gouache and pencil.
British Blues, 1986, 12x16in. Gouache, ink and pencil.
I still do comissions for friends, price inc hand made frame around £200.
The former LSWR Ford Viaduct (SR), the duplicate SR line to the GWR route, closed in 1964 under the Beechhing cuts ( ). Demolished in 1986. Close to where I grew up.
1985, 36x20in, Acrylic.
Another view taken from one of my own photographs
18x30in, 1987, acrylics.
The house and the Viaduct . . .
1990/1987. Acrylics
The house as it may have looked when built in 1851.
18x26in, 1994. Acrylics and pencil.
Sorry about the flash/pic angles - allare behind glass.

I may be able to copy the smaller one, the two big ones are on board and cannot be scanned, they would need to photgraphed onto transparency or digital camera on a special copy stand set up.
I have a load of pics of the old SR Viadut coming down brick by brick in 1986 . . . I took pictures every other day. A very sad event. It was a 7-arch structure about 80 feet up! Ive walked it a few times, before it was fenced off!
It was the LSWR(SR) route to London via Okehampton

Have you been on the short line from Okehampton to Meldon Quarry? I went on it along time ago when it was still finding its feet, so it may have changed alot since I last went By the way, what is 'Gouache'?

I know of it MTA, a friend in work has been on it and speaks very highly of it! They had a few dieses ldown there last year, 37/47 and I think a Hymek. Its a sort of railway cum cycle track - well Meldon Viaduct is.
Gouche is a thicker sort of water colour paint, comes in a small tube and gives a very flat, dense colour pigmentation.

I always admire people who can draw - it's one of those things I just can't do. I took some art classes, so I know how to set out a design, but I just don't have the eye for it.

I've been around artists for most of my life and I'm not one for offering cheap and easy compliments where artisitc talent is concerned. I really like your sense of color and balance, but the near fantasy or dream like quality of your work is especially appealing to my eye. Your work style is one I'd proudly display. The use of mixed media can be a disaster for many artists, but you've managed to use it as effectively as anyone I've seen in years.
You sir have managed to impress me quite strongly with your talent.
Strangely, your use of vivid eye pleasing color reminds me of that of perhaps the most unusual artist I've ever encountered. The gentleman painted the most fantastic detailed scenes of the cliffs and hills of coastal northern California. His oil paintings were among the most vividly colorful that I've seen, before or since.
I became acqainted with the man through friends and we roamed the same social circuit for a couple of years. We were talking one evening when I mentioned that I greatly admired his work. One thing lead to another and it came out that this man was afflicted with true grey tone color blindness. He explained that he painted by using contrasts and depended on his wife's eye to verify his color mixes were "close". A mind blowing bit of information at the time, and it still amazes me today.
Thanks for sharing the beauty of your marvelous creations
