Atwood Steamcraft Amazon side wheeler

I'd love to see this sail again, but postage and import duties prevent me from being the captain of this one.

Bugsy

Wouldn't that be nice!
johnreid

Do you think it weighs that much?

If you want to bid, I could ship it from here and declare a lower value. Let me know
logoman

Cheers for the offer John, but I have my eye on another boat at present
regracing

when i get model rc racing car kits from the states they always declare it as a toy so you dont have to pay import duties

That's  handy to know, I've paid about £600 in duties this year.

Blackface now ehhh?
johnreid

Does he sing like Al Jolson?
kusuchi

Looks great.

I have to say that my interest is up on this little boat

Just to be above board..I may have to have a swing at the paddler just for grins..It does look as if it could be R/C pretty easy just for tiller control...

go on Greg, I hoped someone would.
Bugsy

Hope you get it Mo!
It looks like it has potential, I can imagine it steaming down the Mississippi. (Hope that's spelled right!)
newsteamer123

i might actualy go on this one! concidering my mom take the offer of extra chores for a few months again
mogogear

Sweet..that was a nice low price for a steam boat..even a plastic one

Dance!  Upside down!  Dance!  Upside down!  Dance!  Upside down!

I do not know if you bid or not Newsteamer...? So I hope I didn't walk on you. I just put it on my Sniper and went to my daughters soccer practice.

The seller is about 100 miles from me and I am tempted to pick it up...but the postage is easy and cheaper than fuel..I sure look forward to this first paddler... even though it is little more than a toy...
-- a little elbow grease should help her look a little better!
Bugsy

Well done, o***a!
That should be an interesting project.
Great price, too!
logoman

everything is a toy, I'm so happy you got this Greg, I love it.

Congratulations Mo, I look forward to seeing the video of it running.
newsteamer123

THIS IS WHY I HATE HOMEWORK! A STEAM LAUNCH COMES UP I HAD THE CHANCE TO BID ON AND I MISS IT!!!!! GRRRRR      Shooting
L.North

Win some, lose some, newsteamer123.  Your chance will come. That is one sweet boat. I want to see it run.
mogogear

Thanks L,, me too-!!

I should have it in time for the STWWW...( along with my new PT boat- but since it is not steam I won't be featuring her in the line up)

I will get the paddler cleaned up and have her out with my other stuff; menagerie; finance diversions; procrastinated projects

I need to get myself going on posting a video--Kusuchi knows I am being rather reluctant to delve into the black art of video..Lazy I suppose

Careful, Greg, it's the final stage of the addiction.     You can get your marine fix on You Tube any time of the day or night.

Once you pass that point, no 12 step program can help you!

Congratulations on a great acquisition.
mogogear

Thanks Richard...at the rate I got the paddler for I could buy a fleet full of them,  about 200+ or so  to equal one of your SLEEK SLEDS in dollar value...so I would be hard pressed to be a little more than pleasantly amused by her....

But they are all fun in adifferent sort of way.

I am encouraged for my flagship -I had a conversation with John Moore and I have a new Cheddar twin engine coming hopefully in 6 weeks or so for the Alexandra..

fingers crossed and all that..I was pleased to see that the boys did not snipe at your Seekadett over on MM ( at least not yet)

cheers
logoman

if the novelty of the Atwood is shortlived, Newsteamer would be happy to be the next inline.

Congratulations on sourcing a new engine Greg, I couldn't find anything that answered your brief for the money... a single servo for speed/forward/reverse was the hardest part.
mogogear

Since I am about to go to a 2.4ghz 6 channel radio ( Spektrum) the extra channels and configuration of a third servo is possible as back up option.
The Graham twin engine and my Polly thottle valve would step up to the plate in that case...The engine is more "period" looking than the Cheddar, so that is more a logistics job on relocating engine and servos etc.

The Bogstandard option is not 100% so I will see how it plays out.

IMHO the  Graham is much better than the Cheddar.
madeinenglang

Well done Mo

It's only a matter of time, Greg!

Still, when I read BB's enthusiastic and complimentary comments, I thought I was on this forum for a second.    An unexpectedly pleasant surprise.

Good job they weren't privy to the remark about running her flat out, they'd have had palpitations!

Can't wait to see the progress on Alexandra.  I also bought a 2.4gHz transmitter.  Separate servos for forward/reverse and throttle would be ideal if space permits.  The multi directional joystick on Channels 1 & 2 provides the most precise control in my limited experience.

Jealousy is an ugly crime...I on the other hand   am merely envious but I have showed your Seekadett to man a friend of mine who has asked "what is your ultimate steam boat"... they always marvel and how exquisite the detail is...she is the first steam launch many have ever seen...They might as well start off at the top!

Hands down...
mogogear

The Paddler arrived  today... dirty but all parts accounted for == pictures later this week.

Things to do:

Done-Clean the boat

Done-The boiler had a cap but to SV-  I made one tonight

Done-Cleaner boiler

Need to install insulation under boiler to protect boat hull

Done-Disassemble engine and clean and lube

Done-Repair small crack in hull

Possibly coat entire inside of hull with fiber glass "resin" to add a bit of strength.

See about how to configure a R/C Rudder

My Forrest Steam meths burner works perfectly!!

Adios

P.S. The PT Boat arrived today also --Lots of boat projects in the Mogoboat W

G'night
logoman

if you strengthen the interior I'd lay down some glass cloth under the resin.
mogogear

What I meant and not wrote
johnreid

On non boat items that I have strengthened with fiberglass, I would embed a strip or two of wood in the fiberglass thus making the item stiff as Fiberglass bends easily
