Often called the 'Newcastle Flyer', now fully protected by the NSW Rail Transport Museum. I've been on the foot-plate of that loco at Sydney's Central station, many years ago, and am old enough to remember her in full service. In OZ treated with the same repect as "The Flying Scotsman" .

I have a video all about 4472s Australian tour (did any of our members see it?) and the 3801 features heavily, much to my delight. We had a visitor to the Cockcrow this year who has a 5 inch gauge model of it! | ||

I've also got a great ho scale BRASS model of 3801, brought that in 1995 for $1750.
I'll treasure that the rest of my life.

Yeah I did manage to see it, actually got to ride behind it when both the 3801 and 4472 were joined together. Unfortuantely I was only 12 or 13 at the time and far from appreciated it. In fact I got annoyed travelling with my Dad running up and down the coast here filming it 
Was the visitor from Australia. Just wondering, as there was a toy and hobby display here recently, and one of the big attractions was a live steam model of the 3801. I don't know gauges, but it was one of them ones you can sit on/ride behind. |
