Unfortunatly it is only a model, but I made it as a load for a heavy haul trailer. The trailer I have now is a little short so I will have to make a bigger one, Just take the wheel sets of the present trailer and use them for the new one. The model is about 14" long and about as tall. The project got a bit more involved than I expected, one thing lead to another...oh,theres another detail I can put on it...oh look something else it shuld have...howbout some of these thingeys...and on and on,you know how it goes.

Stunning! That turned out real nicely.
Remember Kevin has a talent for making small things look big. I notice that the photo on your original post is gone so the comparison to you on person is no longer available.

Very nice job.
I'm wondering if it'd it look better if you aged it a bit, those yellow railings are quite bright. Some flaking paint and rust highlights and it would look real.

Kevin, if I didn't know you are a master with modeling materials, paint and photo work, I would swear that unit was ready to drop in a large model ship.
Incredible detail, I can see why it took so long.

About 100 hours of fooling around with paper, cardboard, wood, wire, paint and glue.

It represents a new engine fresh from the factory, ready to be taken to the power house where it will be mated up to a generator and produce billions and billions of electrons.
In reality I do'nt think it would have the railings and walk ways for transport so as to facilitate the placment of chains and other tackle gear, but what the heck!

Engine of the month!
Kevin, that's absolutely stunning...I mean, I'm thinkin' cover shot for a model builder magazine!
It's so good, it's got me wanting some pics that give it perspective, show it really is a model.

I guess now you will just have to model the powerhouse too!

Thats a great credit to you.. makes you look twice to make sure that it is a model.

Geewhizz guys, thanks for all the compliments. I'm not woried about winning any awards or contests,I just like to make what ever intrests me at the moment.
I have to admit that the whole thing is'nt real acurate, I only had a one sided picture to go by and the original had foure sets of cylenders but I made mine with five to give it more interest. I did do research and found that there have been five bangers made but they have balance problems. The side withe the gauges (thi good side) was all made buy guess, I refered to photos of large marine engines to get placement ideas etc. Of course afterwards,I spoted some more accurate information that suggests how it shuld have been done . Ya work with what ya got!
