I didn't like the bell pull on the whistle though If you listen carefully you can hear the whistle being opened because of the weight of the bell pull and the motion of the engine I couldn't beleive it when I heard driving/firing main line steam engines is paid work
SPOKESMAN

VERY nice indeed . . . .

I believe most are employees of companies like EWS? I may be wrong, I know the NRM have drivers who drive their specials, and the drivers are organised by EWS.

we need AWS at the GCR.

Yep, most are EWS, it depends which charter company is running the railtour. I beleive the WCRC uses it's own driver, but has an outside 'third man' or inspector.

AWS on the GCR? As if the GCR wasn't complicated enough

Ah! The M.H.R.!! Another of my favorite haunts, being on my brother's doorstep, once again & a really interesting line to visit.
Been there, done that, got the keyring

Sorry
MHR = Mid Hants Railway
AWS = Automatic Warning System
EWS = English, Welsh and Scottish Railway
NRM = National Railway Museum
GCR = Great Cockrow Railway
WCRC = West Coast Railway Company

Hope this helps!

BT, I don't work on the MHR, I work at Amberley Working Museum on the 2ft Gauge railway, the South Downs Light Railway (10 1/4") and the Chichester and District Society of Model Engineers (O gauge-10 1/4". I used to work on the Bluebell, but I moved and it's to far away IMHO to make regular visits

oh dear, too much slang going on

yeah I was just wondering, as someone in the lower years at school is footplate crew there. Thought you might know him.
MTA

If I didn't move from Surrey, I probably would be though. They have a good junior club there, you can go any day you like. The one at the Bluebell is getting ridiculous, once a month and they are over subscribed Should make it two to avoid dissapointment IMHO
Graham-Jilly

thanks MTA -- sure sounds like you have some interesting places to visit --and wonderful railways. Cheers Jilly-Graham

They're everywhere! It's a pity you don't have as many railways in Australia

GCR - Great Central Railway. Think they got there first!

I did think about the Great Central Railway, I suppose we'd have to ask bessietractor about the date when the Great Cockrow Railway was first set up to find out who got the title 'GCR' first
SillyBilly

On the topic of railway videos, this is a video of the Ffestiniog Railway's 2ft gauge Boat that I help build the running gear for, on a test run. www.youtube.com/watch?v=4G3uz0rgSJA You may laugh!

1968...we win

in actual fact the railway was originally built in Sir John Samuel's garden, and a couple of our members date back to the original railway, which opened in the late 40s. When he died the railway moved to its present site, and went from garden railway to becoming an actual self sufficient railway.
