Bowman #265 Loco Restoration

Bought this today at a car bootsale for £45. There are more pictures of it as found in the collections and pictures board.

Not much of a restoration to do to this one. A new burner tube and set of wick holders needs to be fabricated (measurments thanks to Odilon) and a handrail on one side of the boiler needs replicating but other than that its just a clean up and get rid of the brasso that hasn't been removed when it was last polished!

I may also replace the steam pipe as it has been slightly crushed in the past, does this take steam from the dome?

As bought...

In bits...

Old brasso....

Chassis...

...and again.

The burner that needs repairing...

With all its fixtures and fittings...

The level plug needs to be soaked in oil to free it up...

The tubes shall be replicated with the use of the dimensions and this image supplied by Odilon.

All in all, a nice project to work on over half term

Looks like Fender Washers

I am not the only one to use such an item.
Les

That didn't take you long to disassemble.
Sandman

WOW. You're getting stuck in right away Jim.

Looks really good.

Not a lot wrong with that one.

Thanks! Doesn't take me long to take something apart, it's everything after that that ends up taking time

Kinda remind me of me sometimes.

I get stuck in and don't get back to it for a month.

I get distracted by other ideas I come up with when i'm thinking about the current project

I am assuming a repaint is in order, have you chosen the colors?

It's quite likely, however I do wish to play with the engine as is for a while just to sort everything out and have a bit of fun with it.

I will probably go for the GWR version of it if I was to repaint, I beleive Bowman made a version of this in that colour aswell as the big tender loco?
Burnmafingers

Nice loco
I wasn't even aware Bowman made locos!

It's your loco so there is no right or wrong to the colours you choose, I have seen them in green, mauve and black.

Does anyone know if the steam dome is a working dome or just an ornament?

I ask as I may replace the steam pipe and don't know where it takes the steam from.
MooseMan

Jim, the steam dome is the real thing.

Thankyou, I presume it is soldered on?
