Archive for The Unofficial Mamod and Other Steam ForumThe Original Unofficial Toy Steam Forum Established 2006 The biggest, most popular global steam forum around! Accept NO imitations! We have a growing community of regular posting members who chat about all aspects of toy and model steam.
Dauntless came to visit, and we had an impromptu steamoff between my Mamod SL3 and my Bowman 410....even though there's about 50 years between them they're a fairly good match, although the SL3 was running with a coach on the outer loop, so at an unfair disadvantage!
And for those of you who don't know him: that is Dauntless in the video there, the face behind the legend!

That can hardly be legal, having so much fun!

It's a date!

Another great video Odilon, and good to see the layout getting a good workout.
Great to see Dauntless obviously enjoying the steam up.
Magic stuff.
Nick
Another great video Moose!

I cant decide who is luckier, Dauntless for living close enough to visit Moose, or Moose living close enough to be visited by Dauntless. one goal in life is to hoist a brew with the two of you.
IMHO the noisy track just adds to the fun when Toy Steam is running. As soon as my SL3 is back on its feet I will have to do just the same type of run off.

John, you know you're always welcome here. Just turn up, stay as long as you like, plenty of room.
Les
What a great way to spend time together.
Jay_Minor
fantastic fun

Great video... looks like you had fun!

I enjoyed seeing the elder statesman of steam (the 410) take over and eventually pass the new kid on the block. We'll ignore the Mamod had a tender in tow and was running on the outside track.
I'm sure the 410 could have beat him anyhow!!!

...and we won't even mention that that 410 has a single tiny single acting cylinder, as opposed to the Mamod's twin double acting. The 410 is factory spec, the SL3 has been severely kitbashed....
GBJ knew how to build them, that's for sure - not that I don't love my SL3
BTW, if I'd given that SL3 full throttle it probably would have vaulted the valance and kept going....the needle valve regulator in the cab was open about 3/4 turn for that run
I'd love to race an SL3 against a Bowman 300 on a long straight track one day!
