What did you do. 
I find a tiny drop of detergent in the water helps and make sure you wet the surface you are putting it on before you apply it.
To move it correct position use a very fine paint brush, don't try and use your fingers or you risk breaking them.
Once in place I get a tissue and just touch the corner of the tissue to the edge of the decal to wick off the water.

I've just received the Bowman decals I ordered from MM.
I must compliment Chris (Flywheel) on these, as they are among the best I've ever seen.
If you are needing or think you'll need Bowman decals now or in the future, do not hesitate, get your order in.
I fully recommend them as a great buy.

James just has one with a more "Antique" look to it
Nothing wrong with that.
IMHO Antique with a little wear is better than looking brand new, unless it is in fact brand new

The decal was brand new, now we have to work out a way to do that, all the time, without totally destroying the decal,

Yes but was what the decal was on brand new? it is only replicating that "old age charm"

Good point, don't know if the base has been repainted or not, if that's what your getting at. Either way, as you say, it looks more 'antique'.

Mo sadly the decal on Snipe isnt the same as on the Bowman stationaries- the decal is as below (this is Swallows, though all 3 of my dads are the same)
