Bowman Grinder # 831 - RestorationWell the restoration of my Bowman Grinder is finally finished; it only took a couple of weeks.
During the restoration I had the good fortune to acquire an identical grinder from German Ebay. It was badly listed so I got it cheep, its identical to the bowman model; the only difference is it has a green base!
Anyway I swapped a few of their identical parts about between them and now the restoration is finished, I have two of these. One lovely red based Bowman # 831 Grindstone, and a spare one with a green base to run with my Bowman M101.
BEFORE
AFTER
And finally the Green Based version with all the “Old Bits".
Does anyone know if Bowman made these with green bases or do you think it’s the Doll Version?

I like the looks of the green one too, the red one turned out a real beauty.

They both look great!
Hope it doesn't sound like a silly question but why didn't you paint the flywheel on the Bowman?

The grinder looks really good, a friend of mine has the green based Grinder and I have the smaller version which is also green based.

No not silly at all, you’re right,
I actually painted the wheel as well but when I removed the masking tape I had covering the Chrome part on the outside rim, it removed all the chrome from the whole rim
So I quickly swapped it for the unpainted one from the Green one at the last minute when I was assembling them.
I may take it off and hand paint it this weekend but the finish may not be too good so I’m not sure.
Unless anyone knows of a good Chrome effect paint

A hint to remember, when masking with tape, put the masking tape on a sheet of glass or the countertop then pull it up and use it then to mask, the excessive adhesive is then gone and it is less apt to remove the new paint.
However with a bit of the paint missing, it just looks like it was made a long time ago and was really cared for, adds to the look IMHO.

Steve, I love your refinishing work....the pinstriping restoration is perfect and the red base looks a mile deep...fabulous!
Maybe to simulate the chrome finish on the spokes, a brisk wire brushing with a Dremel would bring up the metal finish...then clear coat it to keep it from rusting.
