Broken mamod drive bandHi chaps
I have a broken Mamod SR1a brive band, is it going in the trash or can they be repaired ???
Any advice would be welcome.

Is it broken or did it come undone at the joint, if it came undone you can basically screw the small end into the larger end to connect it again.
If it is broken you can make loops from one winding of the spring on each end and join them that way, fiddly job but can be done.

I never throw them away, not even short pieces.
They can be joined, not too difficult if you have a small pair of needle-nosed pliers.
These are perfect for removing ticks from cats and dogs as well.
As well as irritating hairs in your nose.

Ouch....nasal hairs , that made my eyes water just thinking about it.
Assuming I have such a tool how do I join the ends of the spring together??

Grab the last coil.
Bend it to 90º
Do the same at the other end as well.
Hook these two coils together.
It's easy enough if you practice a bit.

I use an old pair of cuticle cutters my wife was going to throw out, they are straight on one side and tapered about 45 degrees on the back, just give the last coil a squeeze and it pops out in a loop.
They are great for cutting short lengths of cored solder off a roll as well, the way they cut they seal the end of the part remaining on the roll.
