Burnac Vulcan……Pictures

.
I arrived home from my latest Business trip last night, to find the posty had delivered this while I was away.

It’s a lovely 1946 and 1949 Burnac. These are a british steam Engine Made by Burnac Ltd of Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent.

Moose man has a good web page on these, which can be seen at this link. http://www.freewebs.com/odilon/otherbritishengines.htm (hope you don’t mind Moose?)

Anyway here are the pictures I took this morning when I unwrapped it.

Going to steam it now.

Nice.
I like Burnacs, they would sit well with my Renowns and Scorpions.
MooseMan

That's a beauty Steve! If you want to, I have a formula here that'll take the rust right off that burner without damaging the underlying material.
Les

I hope to get one of mine back next weekend after repaires. Did you know the sightglasses are/were made by Bing??

That is a nice example Steve, between me and two friends of mine we have 6 and no two are the same.
Sandman

What a topper Steve.

I look forward to seeing this one run.

Steve...

I hate to point out but its missing 4 wheels

Very nice buy!

Disaster

I was preparing to run it but on closer inspection I found the steam pipe has corroded away from the top of the boiler.

Any Ideas, I’ve no idea what this joint should look like? I have managed to get it off buts that’s as far as I can go?

Yes Mosse I will take you up on that, I will send you a PM.

I hope you get it fixed quickly and easily.
igy569

Nice piece.  I hope to add a vertical to my collection one of these days.
Lozza1

They are a nice solid engine, aren't they Steve? The last english verticle.

In the 9:00 position, in your last photo, is the threaded collar with the threaded insert still attached.

An "easy out" or the tang of a small file , lightly taped into the threaded insert, Should allow you to hold it steady in a vice while you unscrew the threaded collar.

The easy out or file tang will only bite into the inside of the threaded insert - where there is no thread or finished surface.
scalex

very nice Steve

Thanks Guys looks like a Forum membe has come to the rescue. I will keep you posted when all is sorted.

Good luck with getting it fixed. They're nice engines and good runners too.

Some of them are, between 3 of us we own 6 Burnacs but 5 of those have a steel base to the boiler which has rusted through.

I'm surprised Les. I thought all of the Burnac Vulcans had brass or copper boilers. Mine has a brass boiler

The boiler barrels themselves are either brass or copper as is the boiler top. It is the boiler bottoms on some engines that are made from steel.

Looks nice that but sorry to hear of the mishap
I must admit, a vertical engine is nearing the top of my wishlist!

He’s Back

Thanks to fellow Forum member’s gallant efforts, all his problems are now well and truly sorted. The transformation is truly amazing, and I for one never believed the burner would come up so well.

Well he now runs like a dream…. video to follow…..

Just thought I would post a few picks of my efforts to clean him up a little, a bit of a before and after affair.
