Burnac Vulcan sight glass ... bustedPart two of the sight glass saga (try say that after a beer or several).
I knew the glass was busted (cracked) before I removed the frame ... so does anyone know where I could get a suitable replacement bit of glass from? The original is 38mm long by 12mm wide and 2mm thick. Is the glass ordinary glass or tempered in any way? I'm also on the look out for a new leather seal as the original seal just came apart when I removed the frame.
Thanks for your help

Sight glass broken....ouch, just as well you spotted that! Is it the type that is a glass tube, or is it just a slice of glass? If the latter, you can replace it by carefull cutting a microscope slide down to size. Should that not work, clear acrylic will also work well. As you're replacing the gasket anyway, you might as well use something a little more modern than leather, like gasket paper, and possible some high-temp silicone sealant - both should be available in a good car shop.

Or you have to get you one of these:

You have to melt the glass with a burner's flame a little bit, so that you can bend it.
Thats the correct way to make a new sight glass (if you need such a bent one on your engine)

If its the tube type then as Dampfzauberer suggests you need some 4mm Borosilicate tubing which will need to be bent to fit into the holes in the boiler. The glass on my Burnac was missing, so as a temporary measure I soldered copper patches over the boiler holes and put a glass fuse in the holder to make it look right. I suspect this temporary fix might be there for some time!
