Christmas comes early at theWater Closet Of SteamA dear friend gave me a small sum of cash with the condition that I buy myself a nice Christmas present with it, if I was to use the money to pay a bill I would be obliged to pay the money back. Well, I couldnt wait till Christmas, I went straight to Ebay and did a serious search for something I did not have, or a real bargain for something I already had
I own a SR1 Roller, but have never owned a TE1A and one was ending within a few days, so I placed my snipe and then sat anxiously watching to see if there were any more bids.
I won the Auction, and the seller even sent it Priority Mail
I believe it is a 1977 model and much to my surprise, it is in unfired condition! I have not even cleaned it, and when I do fire it I think I will use a spare Meths burner I have on hand,
Now for the pictures:
Aside from the box, all that is missing is the steering rod, I assume those can be found as spares someplace.

That is very nice indeed John.

It could be a reflection too, the sun was bright. I am still not seeing well enough to attempt photoshopping things.

How do I say this and not sound wrong, I have always valued Friendship more than money, I do believe that it pays in the long run. In times past I would have refused the gift, but I know it came from the heart and sometimes one is wise to accept the generosity of friends, Mind me I will try my hardest to repay by paying it forward, a good philosophy to live by, When someone does something nice it is your responsibility to do something nice for someone else. Not only does one get the reward of receiving gifts or favors, but you also get the reward of giving to someone else. No better payment than to see a genuine smile on someones face when the receive an act of kindness.

Nice looking TE1A, John.
And yes Ross, it really does look like steam in the first picture!
New steering rods are readily available from Forrest Classics and others.

I believe I have one on the way I gave it a test run and it runs like the clappers, even reverses on the fly.
I did not have the belt attached so I did not have to chase it around the kitchen floor.
Although I have tried the Photoshopped smoke bit in the past, this time it is just a reflection, it happens the best when you dont try.

Definitely, John, friendship is better than money. You can only spend money one time, but you can borrow money and receive prezzies from friends many times in a row. In the long run you can get more stuff.

I feel with you, John,
now you can understand how much I was pleased, when friends of mine handed over to me a complete engine. It was a very generous gift and I felt very unconfortable first in looking how to pay back this enormous friendliness. Later on I realised that it was an act of sheer friendship, no pay back awaited, and was very fond of that engine(Wilesco D20 "Black edition")since that day and, believe me, I am still.
cheers Joe
