I thought you ordered some from Forest Classics?

not yet, they only have them for the new SP5 (same size, but the look different, I would rather have the right ones)

Oh i hate to see sps like that how can someone just leave it to just rust away
Dont get the new ones as they are a totally different style
it will be tough to get them mate but i thought that with my sp2 sides and they were just like that but now look
after a lot of brasso and crome polish later
you could consider recroming if they arnt that badly rusted but that can cost a bit

You might consider painting them till you find the proper replacements. Some of the Chrome paints are not that bad looking.

i was thinking of doing that with my sp3 crome top but all the crome effect paints would just melt straight away here
and croming is costly here to
dont you have self recroming kits in the US ?

If you bake that chrome paint in the oven, would it stand up to more heat?
|
Lewis

you can do that with black paint easily but i dont know about chrome paint
wouldent it have to be enamel to stand up to the heat ?

I have no idea about paint, but it would be something cheap to try and is reversable. If it works, there is nice copper paint that would work for the Jensens too.

I think they are too far gone for that, the lower one on the picture get real thin if you try to get the rust of. espacially on the narrow pieces at the top

... Erik, here in Vienna, we've a company that does 'Metallveredelung' - doing any kind of plating of metals. Gold, Silver, Chrome, Nickel ... with small parts like your fire box, they'd just 'toss' it in with whatever they'd be working on, thus the price would be low. P'raps you ask a similar company where you live?
You might be lucky - and save money.
Cheers, mate!

You will be very very lucky to find a couple of these for sale from an SP5. I've seen them for the smaller ones.
Paint them for now I suppose.... but re-chroming isn't out of the question!

That was my thought, paint them for now and stop the rust and corrosion, if you find some new ones, fine , if not and you decide to have them chromed later on all you need do is strip the paint. In the mean time you have a Steam Engine to run.

Another alternative for getting them chromed is a smash repair shop, (or they could tell you where), and most car restorers have a chroming tank.
The cost shouldn't be more than 10pound (max).
6 or so years ago car wheels would cost me about 20pound or so each.
The only downside is they must be perfectly clean. That usually means acid dipping or sandblasting. Sandblasting would probably too harsh for them

I've been told that they're rusted too much for acid dipping too.
I think I'll get spare ones (the new flat ones) and replacethem if I ever find the right ones.
