would you pay $40 for a wilesco D5 complete in box

According to condition, I have sold several for $50 without the box

here you guys go. I can never decide whether to buy the steam engine on a good deal or wait for a better one. usually when I buy one, a better deal is right around the corner. It's the uncertainty I don't like. http://cgi.ebay.com/1950s-Wilesco...faultDomain_0?hash=item3356f5cbc0

Hard one to call. the D5 looks nice, but you have similar size engines. save a little more and you might get something bigger, $75 seems to be the point where nicer ones start becoming obtainable.

Ace its junk
Someone used a ferrous (iron) plug in the boiler and its rotten.
And the steam supply thread is ripped out of the boiler......
I told them it was junk and they lowered the price....still junk....Learn what to look for.
It would be ok as a fixer upper for $20 bux total...or even free.

I think that's a mid 70's-mid 80's wilesco rather than 50's, late 50's and 60's models had gray bases, rather than blue. IMO I would wait for an earlier model in good condition that didn't have striped threads and that hasn't been "modified" . just my 2 cents

Jim beat me to it. Amazing how they can claim it works when the steam line is detached from it's solder joint on the boiler top and the whistle looks ripped out too.
Keep looking, cheap but not worth it even at $40

I also noticed the steam pipe came unsoldered from the boiler as well.
EDIT: you guys beat me to the post.

I bet you could get a TE1A or a SR1A for $75, just save up a little more and get something different
My eyes are not good for Ebay pictures

See all that white corrosion......Avoid it like H1N1.
Wilesco boilers are too thin for that kind of neglect.......it will fail and or leak most likely.

I think I will go for that one, but I'd rather have an older one. Preferably a nut and bolt one.
and to jim, I won't go for it, but I still say somebody has to give it some love.

johnreid

A nut and Bolt one will run over $100 for sure

That traction engine used to belong to Volmer Jensen, my hero when I was into hang-gliding.
Excellent price so far!

I knew that name rang a bell I think it is worth more than $75, but there is a chance it might go for less. I fear that someone has a snipe on it though.
|

However I dont see a skuttle or burner, it might go for less

$49.88 for the TE a real bargain, did you get it Ace? A burner and scuttle might be found on the forum if you ask

He's offline, hope he hasn't done anything rash.

I hope he is completing an auction, One never knows, the scuttle and burner might be with it so if he won it he needs to inquire about them.
