Cleaning out a mamod whistle

Hi guys!

One of my Mamod whistles has stopped working. It is one of the modern pull chain ones Hoe do I go about cleaning it out or just make it work again!

Soak it in vinegar for a while and it will work again.

Also if it is sticking give it a few small drops of light oil (mamod lub 1 is good) in the spring and on the rod at the top so that it is taken in when you press it down.

The whistle on my traction engine didn't work for a few years-when I rebuilt it I soaked everything in vinegar, then I gave it a blast with one of those cans of air you can get to clean computer keyboards-that blew all the gunk out.

I did that because my other whistle was sticking

I just soak them in warm soapy water and give 'em a good rinse, then blow them out with canned air/breath.

the whistle may be blocked.??????????? if cleaning fixes it great but... there is another reason a whistle wont sound. you said it used to be on a roller!??????? it might be that when you unscrewed the whistle you twisted the whistle "bell" around just a bit. the whistle is just a small bit of pipe pressed onto a valve and  its very easy to twist this off .

the straight edge of the whistle bell must just slide over the flat part of the valve where the hole is(screw driver points to it. if the bell has been twisted around even slightly the whistle wont sound. the same applies to the lever type.
