Cleaning the paintwork

After running the MEC1 all day yesterday the MEC1 has become extremly filthy. How do I clean it without damaging the paint?
Cheers

oily rag treatment works wonders
Wandering-Willie

Ran out of oil running the engine all day

I swear by baby wipes - they're very good at cleaning crap off

Joking aside, they work really well.

what ever you use dont try and clean the paintwork whilst the engine /model is still hot. heat softens the paint and hense till it cools the paint will be easily removed.

I used babywipes but no all of the crap has come off

if its just oily scum and waxy soot then kero/diesel /petrol works a treat on a rag. mineral turpentine is just as good. crc or wd 40 also works well.   (please note..... if diesel or petrol is used extreme caution must be used!!! hense its not normally recommended due to the hazards created!)

I just wipe them with an old cloth while they are still warm, it gets most of the excess off that way.

Washing up liquid

Funnily enough it's purpose is to remove grease and oil

Paintwork Cleaning

I use some of my car cleaning products.Autoglym tar remover for oil and grease and the occasional wax polish of any painted parts.

First thing I do with an old engine, into the laundry sink and plenty of washing up liquid a nylon brush and you get rid of years of cr*p---

That's my favourite way too!
An old toothbrush is useful as well.
It's amazing how much gunk disappears.
I wanted to try the dishwasher but the missus vetoed that.

God, that brings back memories.

We used to use Gunk degreaser in the garage. Wonderful stuff.

I don't know if it's still on the go.
