Clockwork WilescoHere's a vid of a sectioned D16 engine powered by a Meccano clockwork motor.

Good stuff Roly.
There is something very hypnotising about watching the piston and valve move.

Ooooh. That`s nice!
Shows clearly how it all works.

In a visual way it eloquently shows how the piston valved, double acting arrangement works - not far from the principles in larger practice.

It is similar to some full sized versions but not quite. It's closer to the piston valve rather than the traditional slide valve - but it's not quite either.

Thanks steamyman; and everyone else. I half expected some people to say it was pointless and a waste of a good engine. Perhaps those people have just remained silent.
The favourable reaction is encouraging and I shall have less of a guilty concience when I go even further with a complete oscillating cylinder engine - boiler and all. I have lots of spare bits for Mamod engines but they are all from different models. I'd rather have a complete recognisable engine that can be compared with the original. I'm looking out for something in rough condition with, perhaps, a knackered boiler that wouldn't be worth repairing.

That would be a great idea Roly, you could also "cut away" a section of the steam line.
It would be great for demonstration purposes.
