collecting run amuck !This is not a great quality photo. I did not shoot it but received it from a fellow steam collector in California some years ago. It is not his either and he gave it the title "collecting run amuck". Pictures like this make us all seem quite sane! (grin)
Enjoy,
Gil
If any of you have similar pics, here is a good thread to share them.

My my! Perhaps the engine was there before the house! That is one whopper of a flywheel, Wouldn't fancy knocking up a bogey for that

Can you imagine the quantity of Esbits required though?

I wonder how the neighbors like it.

I was wondering the same thing. I could never get away with that in my neighborhood....... Not that I was ever thinking about it!

They probably had to build the fence to keep the neighbor kids from climbing it.

Move next door to me and you will have a friendly neighbor, collecting at its cheapest ( enjoy the neighbors collection )

I wish I had a neighbors collection to enjoy; instead, my neighbor enjoys my collection.

One of the great things about this forum John.
We can all enjoy everyones collection, 1 piece or 100.

Go next door and then enjoy your collection.

Think of the water bill.

The question that I'm sure is on everyone's mind though is 'Does he steam it?'

Can you imagine how far you can fling the neighbor's rascally cat with that flywheel?

An old fellow down the street, who was a friend of my grandads, for years was into restoring the old steam engines and related farm equipment.
Used to go and display it at the various country fairs, I gather.
His health has been declining and he sold off his machinery. Sadly this was about a year before I took interest, so all I ever saw was the small horse drawn tiller thingy in his front yard.
Otherwise....Yeah, people around here would get pretty uptight if that were in someone's front yard, though to me it looks nicer than the usual rock garden full of gnomes with rigor mortis standing at attention with their frighteningly fixed false grins...

My shelves are a hair too small for that piece.
I have enough room for perhaps a couple of the valve levers.

I have a few acres that you could store such equipment on.

Gil: I think this one violates your rule about being able to carry it yourself by a few (thousand) pounds
Oh those gnomes...
Actually I like the Travelocity one. The commercial about Europe was a good one. Can't find the whole thing on youtube, but my favorite bit is there.

(off topic, unless you could put this wisdom towards using 110v steam engines overseas)

Um, thats what they make heavy equipment for. Hire a backhoe and a boom truck

Oooo.... That's perfect. I've always wanted an excuse to learn how to drive a backhoe..
