And some good old fashioned elbow grease I daresay!
Always handy to know how other people go about things.

the araldite  has come today so on Monday when it is  my day off will give it a go and see if it holds it in place I need some black paint in a pot not spray can so I will paint the rest on Wednesday  and hope to have it done on Wednesday
Les

That is a great improvement.
With the D&C logo on there I am pretty sure it is meant to be a Doll Drill as I wouldn't imagine the logo would show on a Bowman Drill.

used the araldite today letting it dry going out to see if there's any shops open to get some paint

You sure worked magic on that one!!!  Makes you wonder where it was stored for the last 70+ years...buried in the garden might be the answer.  You did a great job getting the corrosion off.  If you are painting that base I hope you can preserve the D&C logo.

For what it's worth, D&C made various tools for several steam engine firms including Bowman...but with the D&C logo it would seem most likely to NOT be a Bowman.

Yes its a Doll drill, they made the same ones for Bowman but that one is the Doll version.

I must say it looks brilliant.

Back from the grave and what a handsome thing it is now! Well done! Hope the gluing works out OK.
Manxman

Very nice model and certainly in the Doll range in 1930, where it was labeled as model no740.

the araldite did not work      will have to find some thing different
alan2525

You could try some Araldite 'Chemical Metal' and maybe bed a length of wire into the resin on either side of the break to reinforce it, or even a couple of pieces of sheet bonded on either side of the repair. With the pivot for the mechanism there is an inherent weakness in the design.
