When I next get a stuck safety valve I'll have to remember not to borrow my mate's shotgun.

I managed to sheer a nut off my wheel when changing it, thought it was odd that the nut seemed to be getting stiffer-
DUH was tightening it up!!
Could have turned a gun on myself at that moment

I've known a couple of people that have done that before, don't worry you are not alone on that one.
I've nearly done it myself too but realised before I did any permanent damage.

Cost a fair bit to fix
Had to have the drum replaced I think.

I'll have to send that one to my mechanic. The one who cuts rusted fuel tank straps with an oxy torch and who used a torch to heat up a stuck ball joint he was trying to remove and had it explode and ricochet off 2 walls. This'd be up his alley, though I expect he'd first try a cutting torch.
The boss had a technique for last-ditch removal of stuck and rounded lug nuts. Involved something like drilling out the middle of the stud as large as he could, sticking a rod in and working it carefully until the stud broke..

LOL I used to own a Ford F350 and the threads on the Lug Nuts on the left side of the truck were reverse threaded so as I tried to remove one it just kept getting worse

Re: Darwin Award Nomination
Thats certainly a novel approach to freeing a "stuck" wheel nut
The scary thing is I also know someone who would consider that method:shock:

John, it's the same over here, quite a few commercial vehicles have a left handed thread on the left side.
