Dauntless' SE1

here are some pics of my SE1 I got off e-bay for £21

Dauntless

its currently in pieces being cleaned and polished

will post more pics as they come along
Dauntless

this is the "first run video"
it took a bit of persuading to get it to go smoothly as you can see

SPOKESMAN

Good to see Dauntless - a late SE1, probably 1958, last of the 'wick' type!
(It has the wider firebox)

My 54 version, note different firebox sides - H&S rulels were 'starting' to come in - the flames on these types lick around the sides of the boiler.

Very nice for 21 pounds! started to get going in the end!

Should be ok with a bit of TLC
Wallace

Got that one at a great price Dauntless!
SPOKESMAN

Worth £21 of anyones money!
Dauntless

its cleaning up quite nicely,

I'll have to take a pic of the box, The filler funnel seems in good condition too!

yes I oiled it well before I fired it but I remembered how much better the TE1 went when I oiled it whist in steam so I tried it and it went well, the only prob I had it was sloping to the right stood on top of the bin and the end wick kept going out also the safety valve blowing let water onto the burner at one point!

May be worth replacing a few seals if your going to fire it a few times then.

The more you run it the better it will get! but a sound buy at 21 bones! can't make it for that mate!

This is how a wick burner should burn properly:

I'm starting to clean my SE3 now, and it's thick soot undeneath the boilere

I'm not sure If I had the wicks pulled up enough only had about 1mm showing above the body, Will try higher, Not sure what my wicks are made of the box says Aspestos But they look like rope!

I used Autosol first then Wadding, the one I have is called SILVO by Duraglit
Mamodman123

Box looks good aswell, wonder why it went so cheap?
Dauntless

cleaning the copper pipes was the hardest bit where it goes in the flame under the boiler was really sooty!

I used fine w&d then wire wool then the wadding!

the paint I just polished with MER after washing in hot soapy water.
