Dauntless

Dauntless' SE3well I gave my SE3 its first run on Sunday,
here are the vids, it went so fast it threw the chain driving the lineshaft, I did try taking a link out of the chain but it made it too tight, On closer inspection I found the actual shaft on the lineshaft is bent so I'm going to replace this then try it again, but overall very pleased with the first run, I was supprised how much you can hear the engine speed up after it threw the chain " which happened when I was recording it "

CERTAINLY flies! Excellent stuff - chain may need a link taking out?

Yes it did sound a bit rough till the chain came off!
The SE3 was living up to its reputation there POWERFULL .
Looks like a good runner anyway! Just get that chain and lineshaft sorted out

thanks guys in that second video it frightened the life out of me with steam shooting from everywhere, so much I pulled the burner out and blew it out!
strangely though the safety valve never blew, I did check it worked before the run too,

They really steam!!
When the SP5 crane is upand running we'll see how quick that one goes.

is that the 57 version mike ?
|
Dauntless

from the piston faces and a small amount from the level plug, I fitted a new washer on that for the second run. seemed ok on the second run, the steam may have built up a bit when I was putting the chain back on so many times,

Obviously not
I'd imagine the Countershaft makes a lot of the noise

that video's a couple of years old, taken right after the rebuild of that engine (restoration's to tame a word for that)
Everything was still a little stiff....it isn't quite as noisy now, but it's still pretty loud at full throttle - I love it. Powerful as well - I tried to stop it once by pressing down on the gearwheel, and it cut my finger!

Its a beast. What kind of burner is that?
|
Mamodman123
|
wow what a machine Mooseman, very noisey aswell!
Ticks over like a beast

The burner was a temporary job....block of wood with half a copper tube fixed in it. In that video it's running on two blocks of esbit(!). I made a proper meths burner a couple months later.

I'll be looking out for one of them!
Was that Bowmans biggest?

I see! Well it certainly worked OK.

I think Odilons gone. No the biggest was the M101. Single cylinder, huge boiler, and a flywheel you wouldn't want to drop on your toe!

Is that the one that goes for over an hour?

Apparently!

Great vid Mooseman. Nice runner, you still got it?

Morning all, literally fell asleep behind my computer yesterday
Wallace, you bet I still have the 122....that's one engine I'll never get rid off. I've only ever sold one Bowman, my M140 which John Chapman now has (I'm not counting parts and incomplete engines)

Great to hear you still have it. Fantastic engine
BTW, you have a PM mooseman
