Dave S's Table *Now Finished*

Hi everyone and welcome to my table.

I've been into steam engines for about 3 years as a hobby but have always owned at least one toy engine since I was a baby due to my dad being a railway fanatic, although I always had a passing interest in steam.

I thought I'd keep it simple and just present my engines.  This is my first STWWW and I didn't want to try anything too fancy.  I have several new videos and plenty of new pictures but I'm also including a few videos and pictures I've already posted for completeness.

I also have a special picture for Pauly!!...I think he'll know which one

Here goes..............

I thought I'd start with my smaller mobile engines.

Looking forward to seeing some of your bigger engines too.
Sandman

Great pics, and well presented.

My favourites are the Mercer and that black and brass Wilesco.

Cheers.  The wilesco is the best value traction engine I own.  I got it before the price rises a few years ago and it will run to a very slow tickover
Celsius 100

Good location shots for your great collection of traction engines.Good to see the Mercer in action.and the Samson with its exhaust via the chimney.
Wallace

Nice engines. They look great in the grass
Les

I do love the Mercer and the picures in the grass really do it justice.
flywheel61

It's the black Wilesco for me, and you'll have to get a slasher for the Mercer, a much better way to cut the lawn,

Cheers

Chris
magpie38

great collection

Thanks everyone

Next up, both of my bigger traction engines.  Both are Maxitrak designs and are built by Accucraft.

The video of the Burrell isn't as good as I'd hoped as I forgot to tighten the grub screw that allows both rear wheels to be powered.  As such it slips a bit on the grass (I'd also set the power to exactly the resonance frequency of the chimney, which is why is sounds a bit odd) . I also wanted to show the blowdown at the end.

You've seen this before but I've put it on you tube as it seems to play better than photobucket.

What esquisite engines.
Swift Fox

Those are both very beautiful Dave, i didn't realise they were both built by Accucraft.

Some great photowork too.
Sandman

Beautiful machines Dave,

Real eye candy.

Two first-class traction engines Dave, both running very well. The Fowler seems remarkably clean.

Thats the beauty of a black engine!
Dave S

I only own 2 stationary engines at the moment and here's one of them.  A Wilesco D21.

I really like Wilesco engines and this one didn't disappoint.  In fact the only thing I don't like about Wilescos are the pressure gauges so thats why I haven't fitted one to this engine

Les

It looks good against the grass and it certainly goes well.
Celsius 100

A typical strong performance from the D21.Wilesco pressure gauges are pretty poor quality.
Sandman

These Wilescos can really knock out the revs and the power.

They've really surprised me.

Great video.

Dave you have an amzing Traction Engine collection and it just kept getting better as I got further into it.

Right in the beginning I loved the Mamod Samson and the Mercer then the rest just blew me away.

Congrats !!!

ian.allen2

Very nice collection of engines and great vids too.
Albert.rivero

I love them all

very nice

Next up is my SE3.  Recently aquired from Philip (Swift Fox) its a superb engine that runs very smoothly.  I was supprised just how good the quality was both in terms of built and running ability.

I also noted how big (to me) the meths burner is.

Upon firing the engine I noticed how big the flame was but was also fascinated to see that it also perfectly demonstrates the Coandă effect (see flame in pictures). This effect is fundamental to flight as well as many other processes and I thought it was a nice crossover between steam and my interest in aviation.

I also tried fitting the whistle from my 3 1/2" gauge "Robroy" locomotive with mixed success.  I finally got it to work by blocking one of the steam outlets with kitchen roll.  The whistle is really designed for higher pressures.

Sandman

That's a massive tooter.

Clinton will love that.
Celsius 100

Whistle while you work.
Dave S

Finally a few pictures of my generator.  I bought it off ebay direct from the builder, a chap called David Playfoot.  Its possible he's a forum member but I don't know for sure. I wonder if anyone else on the forum has one of his products?

Anyway its really well made and the only thing missing in my opinion is some rubber "sucker" feet to stick it to work surfaces.

I do have one remaining picture after this post and them I'm done

Those Maxitraks are sure a nice product. The pic of the Fowler sitting in the grass is perfection.
Sandman

Nice generator.

I like that.
Dave S

Thanks for all the comments everyone .  Here is is my final picture.

For Pauly and everyone else who commented on the "Its a train isn't it?" thread.

It came to me in a dream!!!

Great to see the SE3 running , that engine has had two big whistles on it now as i used have my PMR one fitted to it which it powered with ease.

Really enjoyed your whole table Dave and you have some cracking steam machinery.
magpie38

thanks great table mate
Dave S

Thanks to everyone for the comments.  Its been a fantastic event with stunning engines and presentations by all who participated
