David Auld tractor and trailerHi all,
I have been offered this David Auld made tractor and trailer from one of my contacts in NZ. I am sorely tempted, but it is way beyond what I am prepared to pay cry:
These are quite rare and only a few hundred where ever made. They certainly seem very mamod inspired, but with a number of subtle differences.
If anyone is interested, please PM and I will put you onto the seller.
Seller is asking $750 NZ (about 285 pounds).
Having trouble adding pics. Will add some as soon as I can get
photobucket working again
Have just sworn and cursed photobucket and it has responded warmly

That's nice
But way beyond my range
Just a note, I edited your post so the pics would show up in the post

That is very nice but the price is maybe a little high. I do want one of those to go with my Auld Roller but I'd like one with it's canopy for that price.

I agree. I think it is great, but too pricey.
However, it would look good beside your roller

Too much for me.
I have seen one of the traction engines on trade me before but not the trailer.
I hope you don't mind but I'm adding it to my collection of NZ engine pictures for future reference.

With that picture I will be modifing my wilesco steam roller to have a similar setup. My old one with the pulley going to the wheel is just too fast and unable to run correctly. So now i will try to make something like that as soon as I get soem new rc gear.

Why dont you just use the gear drive?
That traction engine is great.

Hi all, With regard to manxman's comment of wanting this engine with a canopy I don't believe it was ever produced with one unlike his previous tin wheeled models. Regards Cranko

Thanks for the tip Cranko and welcome to the forum, I'm assuming from you login name your a bit of a Cranko fan, our knowledge on a lot of NZ engines is a bit thin on the forum so hopefully you will be able to help fill it in.

Welcome to the forum! Great to see another kiwi on here.

Hi Cranko and great to have you join us. As already said we don't have a great amount of knowledge about these but we have seen a couple of Traction Engines with canopies. Maybe these have been added later? Or maybe Auld did 2 versions, (with and without canopy).
Tony (tmuir) is better at having a pic collection on his pc, than I am. Maybe he can find one to show you what we mean.

Manx the traction engines made by David Auld that have wheels made from tin-plate have a canopy but it appears this one with cast wheels didn't and I don't think the steam roller had a canopy either.

Hi to all. To the best of my knowledge the auld roller and late model cast wheeled traction engines never had a canopy. The tin wheeled traction engine with 2" boiler always had a canopy and the tin wheeled T E with 1 1/2" boiler could have been produced with or without. As mentioned by someome previously he made a rather wonderful fibreglass boat and a large range of stationary engine of various sizes, some with reverse. One of the smaller horozontal models was fitted with a crane. cranko also made several stationary engines, a steam roller as I saw pictured on the site and a steam tractor which is not like a traction engine. He also made 4 different o guage steam locos and a small range of coaches and rolling stock as well as at least 3 electric locos and the legendary steam boat as presented to prince charles in 1953. If I ever work out how photo bucket operates I will post pictures.

Here is just a very brief tip on how to post images from photobucket taken from our FAQ
4) How do I upload pictures?
You need to set up an account at http://photobucket.com/
Once you do, upload your photos there.
Once your pics are uploaded to photobucket you will see thumbnails of your pics
Click on the bit that says IMG Code below the thumbnail of the pic you wish to upload to here
It will automatically copy the link by clicking on the IMG code, then just paste it in your message that you want the pic in (by pressing Ctrl V)
Do the exact same for vids.
If you need more hep to post pictures just let us know as I would love to see some pictures of some other NZ engines.
I would love to get a Cranko or AUld steam loco to add to my collection.
I missed out on a might atom a few months back and have got my eyes out for another one.

When you hace the url highlighted you need to copy it.
Press and ctrl and whilst holding it press 'c', this will copy the url then click in the message box you se to post a message here and press ctrl and 'v' this will paste it here.
Make sure the box you have highlight blue box at the bottom on photobucket that says IMG code next to it.
Hope that helps.

Any idea what the second hole in the canopy is for?
|
Cranko
|
hole in the canopyHi Tony, yeah just needed a little xtra steam pressure and it all came right. Hole in the canopy is directly above the relief valve so I guess it is to assist with filling the boiler with water. How do I post pictures to the toysteam engine bible site please?Do you have a scorpion truck?

No unfortunately I don't own a Scorpion steam truck. The closest I am to that is a photo in a book Spring, Spark and Steam.
I do own a Renown steam roller though.
The steam bible site is run by MC MC, a member here but as far as I'm aware to submit pictures to him just email them to him from his email address on the front page of the bible along with a description and details of the engine to him.
