Hi all , Demon Industries CEO ( Mr Ozsteamdemon ) welcomes you all to our table .
He has instructed his staff to put on a good show for the auspicious occasion that is STWWW .
To start proceedings this year , we have the unfired Saito T3DR 3Cylinder engine and B3 centreflue Boiler plant . The burner is a pressurised vaporising unit fuelled by Methanol .
Here are some pics .
With boiler end cover removed , showing the cross tubes .
Superheater coil and smoke generator unit .
The smoke generator unit . It takes oil from the engines exhaust and heats it till it burns . For running stationry , i chose to remove the smoke generator to avoid overheating it , considering it would not be connected .

That's left me lost for words Geoff.
All I can say is I wish it was mine.

Your Saito is a real gem Geoff.Enjoyed watching the start-up process.Runs like a dream.

My we're starting off with the big guns on this table.
Those marine units are just so pretty to watch, smooth as silk.
Altho' my favourite will always be the "Aster" owned by Logoman.
Beat that folks?
Les
The burner is a beast , and the engine is a dream, Logoman will be very jealous when he sees this video.
Swift Fox
Wow that Saito plant is stunning Geoff, a privilage to see it's first steaming too.
magpie38
wow oh wow stunning

Now we come to the Linemar Atomic Reactor .
I have owned this engine for a few years now , but it has never fired a shot untill today !
The boiler being made of tinplate had rusted out , so this plant has been gathering dust until i decided to do something about it .
Here it is as i recieved it .
The old boiler with new boiler before it was sent away to be nickel plated , also some spare pressings for an extra boiler perhaps .
The old and new boilers .
Swift Fox
Another superb presentation from the Demon, i must say you have done a cracking job on the new boiler for it.
Les
That is just incredible Geoff, the replacement boiler doesn't out of place at all, well done.
Roly Williams
Great restoration there. How did you make the new boiler?
kd02
Looks great, fantastic resto on the boiler, well done,
Great restoration there. How did you make the new boiler?
Thanks Roly . The new boiler was made in 2 halves , each half being made by the Punch and Die method in the hydraulic press .
The pressing was done a little at a time , with lots of annealings in between . Then the whole thing was then silver brazed .
Surprisingly , i sent the boiler in the mail on the tuesday to the nickel platers , it arrived back here on the friday of the same week !
A four day turnaround including two mail journeys .

It must be handy to have a hydraulic press just lying around for the odd job like that
Sandman
Fantastic stuff Geoff.
That Saito is simply gobsmacking, and the resto on the Linemar is mind boggling.
Loved the night shots. Very nuclear.

If you're prepared to sell your soul, Geoff's table is the one to which I'd pull up a chair.
David
That is amazing. That Saito is wonderful, runs so superbly. And the linemar reactor, what a machine! A real credit to your skills, Geoff. That new boiler looks exactly right.
I can't wait for the next installment!!

Splendid engines and delightful din. Loved the reactor's lights as well
Superb, Geoff. Always admired these engines. Great presentation with the brass base. Was that your work?
Thanks for the kind words guys .
John , i took some 1.2mm brass sheet that i had down to the local sheetmetal works where i`m mates with the boss , he guillotine cut and folded it for me , for no charge .
....... but i drilled the holes and polished it ! ...... and i did make the wooden base board .

I dont think Iv ever seen a REAL live steamer with a FAKE smoke generator before!

What a fascinating concept.
The only one I've actually seen after Alberts, who's was also rusted out.

I bet he would swap it for a certain Jensen.

Looking at your presentation from a machinists point of view, I'm blown away by the Linemar full hemisphere boiler resto.
Looking at it as a guy who likes shiny things and lots of fire, I'm blown away by the Saito triple.
Blown away twice in one day! Great presentation, Geoff.
kusuchi
Wow! That Saito is really something else! Yet another engine to add to my wish list, (sigh).
And the linemar boiler reproduction.............simply magnificent!
How I wish that I could do the kind of things that people like you and Dean seem to take in their stride!
tmuir
That replacement boiler is just fantastic.
I wouldn't even attempt something like that.
xlchainsaw
liz loves the "atomic" ......... now about that boiler.........."you are a "demon" for showing that........now i have more work to do.
Stitch1615

Some of you might remember a few weeks ago , i was doing a bit of furniture making .
Whats he making ? you may have thought , so i can now say its not to put a Doiley and a vase of flowers .
Its for this .
I bought this engine new as a machined kit and thoroughly enjoyed painting and assembling it .
I`m a big fan of the genuine Stuart Livery colours , with my personal exception of wanting a red flywheel and crank arm , so i got the paint set from Stuart at the same time , also i wanted draincocks and oil cups and some proper Stuart steam oil , a new displacement lubricator , tee piece and stainless steel nipple for the steam chest inlet port .
I really hate borrowing the fittings from one engine to put on another as i believe that after a while , thread wear takes place and eventually the fittings become junk .
When doing the plumbing today , i realised i forgot about the adaption from Stuart threads to ME threads , so it was neccessary to bring the lathe into action to make this custom adaptor nipple .
One end done , and ready to part off .
A threaded mandrel was made to hold the fitting in order to do the other end .
Finally the seat was cut for the pipe cone , using a center drill .
We`re nearly there .
Notice on the bottom of the conrod to the left of the crankarm , i drilled a tiny oil hole for the crankpin bush ( this is not shown on the drawings , its my addition . )
So without further ado , he she is running off the Demon 3" boiler , and surprisingly the old demon could maintain a good working pressure .
Please excuse my steam operations blunders ......... you never know what to expect from a new engine .
whistleman
very nice Demon, nothin wrong with that. you beauty!! pool room material.
xlchainsaw
thats nice geoff. as you say ...its tight.!! and is appears that its getting tighter as it heats up!!!!.......... theres no hope for it!!!! it must be steamed and steamed and steamed. not a bad problem to have!!
Les
What a superb looking ST Beam, you must be really chuffed with it.
Sandman
What a beautiful beam, Geoff.
Another cracking video as well.
Freespawn
great beam runs nicely
Swift Fox
That Stuart beam is stunning Geoff.
Steamboat Willie
The beam engine
Hi Geoff!
That is a magnificent engine! Your build and presentation are superb! I agree with you concerning the Stuart colour scheme - it suits the engine totally. I love the way she comes down to that beautiful slow tick over where all the moving parts can be seen for what they are. For me that's a large part of a steam engine's appeal. I think I would call it mechanical integrity, and your engine displays heaps of that!!!
Congratulations on a job well done and for a great video of it in performance mode.
Steamboat Willie
aka Bill.
PS. I'm going to be busy for a bit now - just gotta check if lusting after a beam engine is listed as the eighth deadly sin.
Celsius 100
Geoff, your beam engine is a real beauty and it is running at an ideal speed to fully appreciate its motion.
The Denying Dutchman
Awesome , awesome and awesome!
I never saw a Linemar atomic reactor running before, now I finally know why they put battery powered lights in it.
BK
What a beauty Geoff, I want one!!

Great finale to your presentation, Geoff. The Demon boiler did a great job too.

I thought it was midnight in the UK too Dean, but as per normal I was wrong, it's midday!
Stoker
Wow Geoff, what with a gleaming Saito, the amazing Reactor resto and then that finale with the Stuart Beam ... how am I supposed to get to sleep tonight with visions of steam engines dancing in my head?!?!
But hang on a minute , theres still 10 hours to go and i aint run outta puff yet !
Oops! I'll never get this time stuff figured.
Carry on, OSD!

Geoff
What a magnificent display!
The restoration is the best. Holly cow!
You have the knowledge and the machinery to do splendid things like you have been showing us long time ago.
Congratulations. You are the best.
Rob.

Thanks guys
Now for the final installment of my table .
I wanted to test a recently acquired Stuart 10V that came from Kenneth in Denmark . He told me that she is a bit leaky , so i thought it might be wise to see where the leaks are before attempting repairs .
Also , i wanted to try out a new Stuart generator .
My problem was , the shafts are too short to accomodate a pulley , so i decided on a different approach .
My idea was to make a large pulley and shrink it on to the periphery of the flywheel .
Heres how i went about it .
Accurately measure the flywheel and calculate the amount of shrink fit required .
Next , off to the lathe and machine a piece of aluminium .
The finished article .
Preparation to heat and shrink the pulley to the flywheel .
Lets see how she goes .
Thats all for my table this year folks , thanks for watchin !
robertosala
Forgot to say that I love your Linemar.
That engine is missing in my Atomic line
Now, with a proper boiler it will last a hundred years!
