Der Seekadett

Found this video on You Tube.  Very poor quality, but these M, H & B models all seem to have powerful steam plants.

A link to some better pictures:

Richard--that raked bow on the Seekadett is just beyond words. It cuts the water so cleanly. That is a graceful boat...I really like the sepia toned video-- music was OK too

Mark my words....AFTER you find yours...That is a boat that I also want to own one day....

So please keep after you find yours, keep an eye peeled for a second Seekadett and let me know if I don't spot it. I will start saving now...

My Alexandra as a good starter launch, the Turbinia as my less fancy hull and a Seekadett would really round out the stable....
Klaus Lutz

I like the bow design too. Very nice boat and it seems to be a very good steamer. Lots of fun.

That boat on the Youtube video is a Seekadett, but not a Marten Howes and Bayliss one.
mogogear

tell us more Miles??
logoman

not much to say, it's smaller, and differs considerably from the MH&B design, but it's a lovely model. I wonder if he made it from plans, it certainly has a good steam plant in it!
Kev&Mel

If you were to make it a bit bigger I think you could water ski behind one of these .
logoman

sounds like a a twin oscillating.
(i've become a nerd )

You're right Miles.  Its 240mm shorter, lacks the wood decking, has a longer boiler house and doesn't have Andrew at the RC.

He would never have steered her full throttle at the rocks.

Any idea where I can find video or even pictures of the M, H & B model.  So far all I can find is on retail sites.

I van remember seeing some good pics, but I don't recall where, might come back to me, was probably at a show.

They're still producing my favorite MHB boat - the Opal.

Really.   I've not seen it on any website recently.  Do you have a link?

Some more photos of a German chaps Seekadett from a German model site( I think)

It may be worth contacting them just to see if they have an Opal left.

So the Seekadett is still available for sale...correct? Or are all the sites just advertising something that is no longer available?
logoman

it's still in their current range.
mogogear

Ahhh-Good news then...I can hope they will keep it in production till I save my pennies for a full kit. That is probably more realistic than waiting for one to happen along..

Plus I can save on the crazy shipping costs...

Of course if any of you would know of a gent with a kit they just can't tackle or get started on- let me know....till then I will be saving !!And trying to polish up the skills needed to complete it!!

Get in line, Mo.

The cheapest available retail kit is here:

http://www.jotika-ltd.com/Pages/1024768/MHB_2.htm\

M, H & B want 2,100 pounds for theirs.

The builder of Topaz has offered to build it for me, (at a price   ) but I'm still looking for someone who has a partial build for sale.

With Topaz sitting beside me at my desk, this is definitely my next most preferred acquisition.
mogogear

Richard - I am sure that in the next 2 years I will build a Seekadett .Plus the relative safety of shipping a kit versus the already built boat is enormous advantage in my eyes. There will be only one ready to go Seekadett on the market in the next year and it is destined for he V.I.

I may build it before the Turbinia just because the kit would be a better step towards honing my "building " skills as the Turbinia would be a scratch model from plans.

That is a boat that you have smitten me with......It cuts through the water like butter
kusuchi

Der Seekadett, with MH&B boiler and Monahan Heron engine.

mogogear

Oh Richard!! A hearty congratulations!!! I shall have to move my poor unsuspecting family to the V.I so I can ever see one!!

I can't even imagine your glee!

The deal isn't completely finalized yet, but looks very promising.  It'll be four months, at least, however before you see her on the handrail.

If it works out come and visit.   Try to avoid February, though, as we're getting  pretty booked up that month.

Congratulations Richard, any pictures to tease us with?

having it built for you?
the Heron is, to all intents and purposes, faultless. nice one Richard.

Not yet, I'm afraid, Les.

As Miles correctly assumed, it's being built to order.  I do, however, expect to receive some high quality pictures of Der Seekadett in the near future.  Until now I have been unable to find anything other than small, low res pictures, even on the MH&B website.

The build will also be documented photographically, and should be quite spectacular as several copies are being built together.

Ohhh…. Another one for the VI fleet!
No idea what this one looks but I’m sure it will be utterly gorgeous & will have to prepare some suitable emoticones for the occasion!
Looking forward to first reports from the build (goodness, you must be a patient man!    )
Hearty congratulations!    Party

Thanks, Alicia.  Patience is a prerequisite for living in the Virgin Islands.

Here are the photos from MH&B's website.  I think she's about 8"s longer than Topaz, about 53".   Hope to have some better one's shortly.

This is the engine, but not the boiler, that will be going in it.  The boiler will be the original MH &B.

Les

Are you going for the same colour scheme as on the website or will it be a custom job??
steamgranny

Mmmmm…. that’s beautiful!!  A complete & complimentary contrast to Topaz with its rakish lines & yet more superb attention to detail (even if I can’t see a bog roll in loo this time )
It's going to be a long wait to see this marvellous project take form & finally set sail in the turquoise blue waters of VI......
