DesolderingI want to de-bugger my Empire sight glass, which means removing the solder from the fittings. Aside from needing a blowtorch, what else do I do?

You can buy desoldering braid at Radio Shaft (shack). It looks like flat wire rope.
Or strip some multi stranded "speaker" wire twist it up a bit and flux it just a bit by brushing on acid flux and let it soak up the melted solder....

Steel wool is also helpful in wiping off unwanted solder.
Just don't let the flame touch it as steel wool burns.

I have found the little brass brushes (about toothbrush size) can also help remove molten solder with out the risk of burning

A hot soldering iron also works, I'm not talking electric, but I suspose it should work also. The heat of the iron attracts the solder, then just "hit" the iron on anything solid and the solder decamps.

I use one of these gadgets.
You stick the nozzle in the melted solder, press the button and the solder gets sucked up.
Works great, cheap too.

Tip I got from Cedge....melt the solder, and then blow it off with a blast of compressed air (make sure that there is something to catch it at the other end). Works a treat.

It's extremely satisfying....you can even point the compressed air nozzle at it and go "do you feel lucky, punk? Well.....DO YOU?????"
