Did I take the instruction too Literally?Before my workshop was built all my gear was 'stored' in the games room.
Once my workshop was built my wife told me
'Now get everything out of this room.'
Do you think I took her instruction too literally? 
No actually the carpet was 30 years old and worn out, it has been lifted as we are getting new laminate flooring put in tomorrow so the room can become the kids play room.

If I'de had another week it would be out and once the new flooring had gone in I would of got it reinstalled with a new flue.
The slate plinth was laid on top of the carpet.
Also the previous owner used to break up the soot in the flue by hitting the flue repeatedly with something hard so its completely stoved in and I would love to replace it but it all comes down to time and money.

I have a Ceramic flue, and it is now going to be removed, not a fun job and so far several Chimney Sweeps have agreed to do it, but then backed out, one gave the reason that it involved too much work. Work is what they get paid for isnt it?

Ah ,yes, the genie in the bottle, vanishing trick. Do you mean suspending flooring in regard to your laminate flooring, if so, make sure you get a really good underlay - especially in heavy traffic areas. I got the second dearest, and in heavily trafficed areas the suspended flooring is starting to creak, .
BTW, I had the same problem with my hearth under my woof heater, I wanted to extend it as it was too small and the carpet was getting a few burn marks in it, WEhen I pulled the old one up i fund that the base, under the tiles, had been laid directy over the carpet,  .

Yes got a quality underlay and my floor already creaks so nothing different there.
My wife also is getting it in the front entry.
She got smashed out old but very high quality clay tiles from the front entry and I think within the year she will be regretting that and within 5 we will be replacing it.
