I noticed a few posts where people found out that theyre 70s meccano sets didn't seem to have the parts to build older models. The set contents did change over time and this site has an excel spreadsheet that tracks all the changes:

In short set 9 was discontinued around 1966 and then in 1970 all sets except 10 were re-numbered upwards. For example a 70s number 8 is equivalent to a 1937-1969 number 7. The old number 9 models were then re-packaged as additional leaflets for the number 10 sets. Thus the awesome firetruck being built on this site was released as a leaflet in the 70s in the number 10 series.

This kind of thing also happened in 1937 where the top set L (formally 7) was dropped and the second largest set - plus some parts - became the top set 10.

The firetruck is mine that is being built and has stalled at the moment.
I have all the parts but has stopped for a few of reasons.
1) I have a seven month old baby and he has been taking a lot of my spare time.
2) I'm building a workshop at the moment and my spare time on the weekend that I could normally spend respraying old Meccano parts has been taken up with digging trenches for power conduits, shifting several cubic meters of clean fill, levelling ground of etc
3) and final reason is my 3 1/2 year old son just can't keep his hands off it when I'm not looking so to save parts getting damaged all the wheels have been removed and the base of the ladder has been taken off.

Once my workshop is finished and I've got somewhere to keep it safe until its finished its construction will continue again.

I can imagine how busy you must be with two young ones. My girlfriend has a 3 year old daughter and if I'm building meccano models she seems interested when I start and then later when the model starts to look like a toy!
