Displacment oilers and ??? what then

So I know I will want to put a displacement oiler on the Modeen twin in my converted Coast Guard boat.... but in say the smaller boats with single cylinder engines and the like?( Sniper or my Boat 1 project)

Is there a way that all you other captains keep the boat engines oiled, or do I need to fit them all with displacement oilers?

All the Snipes etc , excepting the Seahawk, don't sport oilers..

I don't have any boats but as long as you all it all before you run it the little boats like snipes etc should be fine as the steam it fairly 'wet' on those toy boats and will provide some degree of lubrication and as the run time is only around 10 minutes or so they should be fine as long as you oil it before you start it.
Also don't forget to install an oil trap on the exhaust so you don't spray a fine film of oil all over the pond.

How do you make an oil trap?

This post by Bogstandard pretty much says it all and even with pictures and building instructions.

Ok, that makes sense that wet steam versus dry steam...Thanks Tmuir... So I may add one to my twin and go from there. They are kind of spendy - about $35 US is the cheapest that I have found - not to mention the assorted fittings I would need to adapt it into place.

I would not think of running without a oiltrap- I live in a pretty "GREEN" conscious place- And I have to say it has been an easy concept to take to heart.

Displacment lubricators

If your engine is not running on superheated steam and does not have "O" rings on the pistons you do not need cylinder lubrication. Forget fitting a lubricator.
In the hey day of reciprocating steam at sea hundreds of thousands of steam engines (each ship typically had about fifty), ran without cylinder lubrication year after year. Only the main engine HP cylinder was lubricated, because it did run on superheated steam.
