Drive bands for Mamods and accessories

Are there proven alternatives to the spring type drive bands for the Mamods, with specific attention to use with accessories rather than actually driving mobiles?

Preferably ones that can be supplied in oversize lengths for cutting to fit?

Many people use O ring stock and there is a green coloured alternative available in the US that comes well recommended by many.

I use these and find them fantastic

You will need a very sharp little knife to clean the meltingpoint up but that easily done IMO.

If you prefer to have a very very clean assembly you`d have to get O-ring rubberline which also is sold in different lengths, give it a very clean cut and glue it together with cyanoacrylat-glue (I use a brand of glue called LOCTITE when i make that type)

I got some on ebay from Sanctuary beads that they use for bangles.

It's as cheap as chips and I've never had a problem with it.

£2 will get you enough to last ages, so you just need that and some superglue and you're away.

To join the bands I have an old Mamod TE rear wheel, dip the ends of the band in the glue, then line the ends up in the groove of the wheel and Hey Presto, perfect joint.

Solid, but if this makes sense the hollow isn't hollow at that price it's worth  the risk

Great stuff all sorted and order placed.

I assume you melt the ends or is it a superglue job?

Superglue (cyanoacrylat) for the hollow rubber beading cord and melting for the green 2 & 3 mm lathe driveband i listed first

The hollow beading cord can also be joined for light duty such as driving a governor on a Weeden No. 14 with mono film fishing line, some of the suppliers actually include a short length with the tubing.

I have found that there is quite a variation in elasticity with the different colours, at least with the BeadSmith line of products. The brown I have works really well, the black not so good.

I have tried spring belts, rubber black belts and the green. In my opinion nothing grips as well as the green belt. The green belt grips so well and does not slip I had to gear some things done do it did not stall the engine.
