Driving in France

I will shortly be going on a driving holiday to France,Belgium,Germany etc.....
I have seen you need headlamp converters to avoid dazzling oncoming traffic, I have a Peugeot 307 with those bug eyed headlights, anyone know if these work with this car?
I cant for the life of me see how they can due to the shape.

any advice would be appreciated.

Paul.
Mamodman123

hmmmm maybe not as you said the shape.....

Why do you need headlamp convertors anyway? Whats the difference in France than here?
Dauntless

they drive on the wrong side of the road so our lights shine to the centre of the road rather than the gutter
joiner

When I went to Germany, I was very surprised that the Autobahn's were unlit and the cars headlights were very dim We had a two hour journey from Berlin's Schoenfield airport to Nordhausen, and the only thing interesting on the journey was a Coach with the word 'F****r' emblazoned in pink along the side of a coach

Dauntless, I'm in Spain at the moment... work mostly ... and we've come in a Vauxhall Vivaro van. I bought a headlamp convertor kit at Halfords and the instruction sheet that came with it contained a long list of vehicle types and diagrams of how to fit them to each type. I think the instructions are still in the van... I'll have a look tomorrow and see if the Peugot is listed.
SPOKESMAN

Nowt wrong with Peugeot MM.

I think I've learnt something??

You guys drive on the same side of the road as us I think (the left)

So your headlights slighty aim to the left??? Or to the gutter?

I've never heard of that before.

We don't have that in OZ. As far as I know, the headlights aim directly ahead here. But the trick to aligning them is they aren't too high, as they will dazzle oncoming drivers. Too low and you won't see far ahead

yes our lights do aim slightly to the left over here bloody nuicance!
if they were straight ahead like yours, there would be no problem!
SPOKESMAN

We drive on the 'correct' side of the road!!!

you will find ours are slightly to the left as well Wallace
Wallace

Really, I didn't know that. I didn't even pick it up using the headlight aligning machines

I wonder if selling a car, if you said "the headlights go to the left a little but that's normal", would the potential buyer believe you

Reminds me when I sold a car once. I warned everyone the brakes need work as it pulls to the left under braking.

The guy that bought it said
"That's normal mate. It's so when you brake heavy, it takes you off the road, so you avoid hitting the car in front, or going onto the other side of the road"

I was shocked, thought he was joking, but he was dead serious
Mamodman123

Seriously?

Ive not noticed my lights aim to the left although they are very bright as the reflecters inside the light are still good, usually they are knackered in a car of mines age.

I need the tracking sorting out aswell as one wheel is a bit off and ive got uneven wear on my tire
TSC.

Have you checked your cars handbook Dauntless? On my car I don't need to fit reflectors, I just have to turn the bulb holders in the housing so that the beam shines the other way, although my car isn't a Peugeot, your car might well have this aswell.

Cheers,

TSC.
Steve_S

Dauntless, I found the instructions for the convertors I got from Halfords, and they include diagrams for fitting to 307 - 2001 on, and 307 CC/SW 09/2005 on. Hope that helps
Dauntless

cheers guys, thanks alot! there is nothing about it in my handbook, so I think I will pop down Halfords in the morning and get a set ready!

I like black on a car... it fades less... red is the worst for fading

and they aren't very helpful when you decide to get some oil either
SPOKESMAN

Red is the worst for fading MM!

Both mine are - RED!!!
Chris

Mine is dark blue.

What are we on about?

Halfords are generally rubbish, but they serve a purpose, I figure that if I can find something I want in there on a shelf then I will buy it. But I also figure that as soon as one of the staff says "can I help you" I have to bite my tongue so I don't reply "no, I very much doubt it". Like Dixons or curreysbloodydotbloodydigital or whatever they are called now.
