Drooooool

A chap at work brought in this engine for me to identify he friend told him it was english
any way took some picks
I didnt realise how big and heavy they are .
he said his father owned it and passed it onto him. the Piston isnt original butor the burner but he still has fun running it.
sorry for the compuer in the way but was on my desk at work.

whistleman

English good to see some of the decal still intact.
Graham-Jilly

yes it in great condition
I didnt want to let it go
tmuir

I see its got the same Logo as Chris's which we think is the earlier decal. The top of the whistle isn't original. The top just unscrews and was obviously lost at some time and a new top made for it.
Its also had the lever snapped off the whistle which is a common problem but easily fixed. Just tell them to stop using serrated pliers on the handle to sound the whistle.

But the rest looks in pretty good condition, thanks for the photos

That's got a water level plug so it's a slightly later model than mine, but the top of the SV looks a little odd. Mine's currently at the decal makers so can't check for sure. It's interesting to note that it still has the same decal on it as mine. BTW has he been in better sounds recently as someone walked in there with one yesterday. Ask him if he wants to buy some decal for it,

Cheers

Chris

, I better put my glasses back on i can't tell the difference between the SV & the whistle with out them ,

Quick question.
Is the writing on the logo gold, or is it just clear and the brass shows through?
flywheel61

I forgot to tell you Tony, I asked the decal maker about that and he has my engine and it's definately gold writing not clear with the shiny brass showing underneath.

Cheers

Chris
whistleman

all good, Chris.
Graham-Jilly

The words are in gold colour.
and he still has the handle for the whistle. he made a wooden box for it so it is carried in that. His father has died and left him the engine and wasnt too sure what it was. his neighbour told him it was made in england
dont think it was him chris as its the only engine he owns and not realy interested in them but he is keeping this as it was his fathers.
Stitch

That's great G-J. Can totally understand why you don't want to give that one back
Would love to have one of those in my collection

Graham-Jilly

only wish it was ours mate
Cranko

I Could really get to like that, about what age is it please
flywheel61

There doesn't appear to be any information, in S,S & S on a direct accurate time line (unless Tony has some) but I think probably late 1940's early 50's as it still has the old decal like mine but has the later water level plug which mine doesn't.

Cheers

Chris
Cranko

Made from 1945 to early 1960s in Sydney NSW.
There are several variations of that engine, they also made a steam roller, that engine on a big base with a windmill and a loco with rolling stock.
Graham-Jilly

would love one of their locos
Steve_S

Very nice!

Unfortunately there is next to nothing on Renown engines on the web, besides a couple pictures on an abc show website called the collectors asking for info on them the only other web site is this one.

The best source of info is the Spring , Spark & steam book.

Here are two of my posts about Renowns.
First one is showing variations on verticals.

This one is about the rollers.
