electroplatingthe final frontier of my experiments. has anyone tried it.ive been promised a large box of broken auto handles to melt down (mazak) mazak is ideal for electroplating. it is my ambition to cast parts for models and electroplate them with brass.

Never tried it but do now the key to good plating is a perfect finish on the metal and perfectly clean.
Have you thought about trying to anodise your ali castings?

ANodising is dirt cheap and doesn't need much gear.
I have an article about it in one of my mags but here is a website about it.

Give the electroplating a try, but due to the mazaks nature the plating will tend to pit overtime. Usually this can be seen on the handles you speak of.
Anodising might work better.

Anodising might work better. | yes the plating does pit overtime approx 15 to 20 yrs and is easily removed by reverseing the process, filling in the pits and reapplying. i will look into anodising and give it go.
