Erector SetI just bought a set on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230268429193
I don't think the box is original. Should I ask the seller to keep the box and send the parts in a smaller box?
The shipping is under $20, cheap for an erector set. I am thinking I might be better off getting it sent in the wooden box to protect everything.
What do you guys think?

The box is worth the $20
Erector and Meccano isnt always compatible, but as a kid it was the Erector Sets that I always wanted. I believe that for a short time Guilbert had the exclusive license to manufacture and sell Meccano in the US, but went on to do the erector sets. I bet they saves a few bucks by just changing the spacings of the holes etc.
Fun Toys.

Get it sent in the box, and if you do not like the box when arrives, just throw it away.

I have now paid for it.
I would probably only save $5 on shipping it in a cardboard box, and would probably end up losing half the parts through the side of the box.

I believe meccano and erector sets have the same hole spacings. I have an erector set and the holes line up with my meccano chain sprockets.
I dont know if the old ones work together, but the new ones do.

I picked up two more, so I will see what I can make out of the three:

(This second one has the manual still wrapped in plastic and the motor looks like it's in very nice condition.)

You can never have too many Meccano / Erector bits.
Nice metal box with that one.

If it does you use the Erector set to build the shelves to put it all on.

I should have at least one of the 3 here today.
One project will be a car or truck for my MEC1.
I will have to look through the book for some other builds.

Let me at em', i have made plans that, in theory, would be a automatic 2 speed transaxle. I also have a meccano chassis that has is setup with an electric motor and a clutch, its just a motor, with gear reduction going to the drive shaft, with a pully at the end that moves up and down the shaft, but is pushed back by a spring. Then there is a shaft that is right up to that shaft, and it has a same pully, but does not move. Just pull back the moveable pully, and let go, and it slams against the other, and drives the other shaft. That just needs to be hooked up to a drive system, (I have it set up to use the 2sp transaxle.)
Your lucky, I would like to buy some old parts like that, they have all the cool stuff. New sets don't even come with chains or sprockets.
