Look on the right of the page and there are links to other steam calliopes. Heck, free MP3s what more could you ask for.

A Steam Calliope is played with a keyboard. Many were towed and played at Fairs and other events. Not only on Steam Ships.
Land based
On a boat or ship
Here is a small one in australia
I actually thought that was what you ere wanting to model, they were often played at Circuses and Fairs.

thanks john i can see one these comeing in the near future now i know about them can you imagine this. a smaller boiler under steam with multiple mamod whistles attached connected to a cam so as to let off steam at intervals with this type of music playing! it would give the appearance of the whistles playing. this hobby is getting out of hand lol by the way i have enough old parts to put it together. there isnt enough hrs in the day

my last link i posted shows pics of the famous fairground dance hall organs. note how they are decorated! to keep it simple . im making a box about the size of a shoe box. liz is going to decorate the front and i am making some mechanical features which will be steam driven, lights will be added of course and instead of trying to make a musical instrument a small set of amplified speakers are placed in the back and a mp3 player added. so you play organ music whilst the lights are flashing and a mechanical display is happening. john has added another idea same deal as above but make a boiler with whistles letting off steam (not actually blowing)same deal with the music played by a mp3 player through speakers. in other words a very fancy set of speaker boxes lol. liz is so keen as to already aquired supplies to decorate it. some plaster castings are going to be added. our showman conversion project is eating up the time at the moment( its gone from 1 showmans engine to 8!) canopies are ready to paint, dynamos purchased, bags of leds are on hand. im off now to get the brass work!with all this and more we have to have a model fairground organ. remember this is a hobby i jointly share with liz. liz s grandfather was a showman! so the family is behind us making a model vintage steam fairground.when its finished it will be a model of the dorest steam fair! i hope our projects will make sense to anyone if you use the dorset steam fair as a plan to our modelling. cranes, ploughs, thrashing, heavy haulage, organ houses, showman engines, fairground train.sawmilling ect. all staring mamods (and bits of mamods lol)

liz and i have been showing bits and pieces and its soon to start to come together ! liz and i have been thinking members here must think we are cracked or something! we go from one theme to another ect. liz works on the fairground part .im doing the agriculture side. the thing is it all takes time. 35hrs has been spent making just the canopies. this is from 1mm thick sheet metal and it takes some cutting! this is for the showmans. we have a surprise for the forum coming! 2 very special models! we didnt see any in the stia vid !we found a pic in an old mag so we know they existed but weve never seen one. these have my urgent attention before forrest steam or san......? releases these. so my friends you will be the first to see them.!

So many of the replicas made, I believe Wilesco makes what is supposed to be a Calliope but in fact is operated by perforated paper
I believe that James has a mechanical copy of a Calliope also, I think that if one was to make a reasonable looking one that the sound could be made with a digital device or a walkman or something along those lines.
