favorite car?

after the favorite song and alcoholic drink topics, what about a favorite car topic?

My favorite car is of course the car I now own

although in the light of global warming totaly wrong, I just love the soft ride and the sound of american cars

I must admit, for a american car it's not the coolest around, if I ever win the jackpot, I want something like this:

(but it's more likely that I sell the car I now have for something smaller...)

So, what's your favorite car?
rangerssteamtoys

My favorite car Is a 1964 chevelle. My dad has one, its got a 454 HP engine and its a sleeper.

I want it for a highschool car but, no way, is what my dad said
andysleigh

perhaps the older mini's,  or the old mustang

... I have to be satisfied with my Aston Martin Vanquish.

johnreid

I used to dream of owning a Porsche 911, now I am satisfied with what I have. If I was to win the Lotto, I really dont know what I would go and buy. Sporty, but practical what ever that is.
I always wanted a 59 Cadillac, but that would not be an everyday driver.

Erik, a Caddy would be much nicer than the Lincoln
steamyjim

Im very much a Aston Martin fan...

But it has to be between the

Buggati Veyron

        OR

Aston Martin DB9 (or even the DBS )
toxx

... traded me DBS for the Vanquish. A lot better than the old Lagonda! Couldn't chase a Dodge Viper with her, plus: Carb blew on the A1. What a mess!

In the last year that I've now owned this car I've also noticed that it isn't the ideal car to use as a everyday driver, parking can be a real challenge here in the netherlands.

there are also a lot of nice caddys, but I just love that enormous nose and the small oval back windows of that lincoln

LMFAO Tom!

I don't have a favorite car, I don't like them!!

If I had to chose from anything though, none steam, it would be either an old Land Rover (series 1) or an Austin 7.

At this moment in time a Mk2 Ford Escort!

Almsot anything old with a ford badge goes with me! I hate new cars! Not the looks just, they aren't great to drive IMO

That's a beauty MM, and an early one too.  It has FORD written on the grille, the later ones used the Ford blue oval badge.

The ultimate fast Ford has to be the RS200, 650 HP, 0-60 in about 3-4 seconds Thats why they banned them from rallying.
Mamodman123

Holy crap thats quick

I am on the lookout for a nice ish Mk2. Trying to find a small engined one is difficult as they've all been gutted and made into rally cars

Sadly there arn't many about today.  As you say they have either been used for Rallying, and the rest have long gone to the scrap yard in the sky.

I did see a nice Ghia one the other day though.

It's because it's a two door.   It will be destined to be a rally car, so the furry seats will go, and it will have an engine of about five times the current horse power slapped in

Instead I a drive this, but as I said I really like it. It has the Sports suspension and is a car with a truck body, light hauling only.

Koni Shocks, Anti Sway Bars, 16" Low Profile Wide tires, it sticks to the road like a true sports car.

That us where the sportiness ends for me, I chose the 2.8 Litre 4 Cylinder for fuel economy. However I am an old VW driver that likes good handling over high horsepower. Sadly though, I only get about 25 MPG

you say that like 2.8 is small..... Mine is less than a litre

25 is a lot better than some of the 4X4's that go around here
TRAPPERKEEPER

My 69' mustang gets about 11 miles to the gallon I'd guess, but it's worth it!! I'll have to get a new car for college next year though, my parents don't trust it to get me there and back so many times
IndianaRog

In another life I owned this car, a Corvette C5 coupe w/ 5 liter engine and a 6 speed manual transmission... despite being a joy to drive, it was actually good on fuel...rated 28 mpg on the highway.  I used it to commute 30,000 miles a year and enjoyed every mile.  Now I drive a small Chevy S-10 pickup  Ah, those were the days!!!

Rog,
My favorite Corvette would have to be the Sting Ray '63-'67, preferably split window '63. Corvettes were great looking up through the late 70's and in recent years, the new ones are looking just as good, if not better than some of the old ones.

I am sure your mechanic would love you to have it too, any French Car I ever owned spent more time in the shop than on the road, I have owned  Renault, Peugeot, but I admit I never owned a Citroen.

... I'm a fan of the Hummer Humvee and the H2. I do not own either one.  Saw a Humvee yesterday here in town - big as tank, petrol wasting and polluting the environment. Was ready to throw stones at it and start to chant an abusive song towards the driver - but as it passed, I read the sign 'Test Humvee Hybrid Car'. I looked this up on google, it seems, it uses a hydrogen/ petrol motor.
Fascinating ...

If money were no object then I'd go for an Aston Martin for fun.

But if I really had that sort of cash then I think I'd also probably employ a chauffeur and then get a modified stretch limo style Jeep as I'm not a huge fan of driving to be honest.

Probably not in pink though.

basically a Citroen Saxo is the same as a Peugeot 106, just a different body and interior styling.  The reason as I'm sure your aware is that they come out of the same factories.

The 106 in its most brutally basic version is a amazingly simple machine.  My mums one ran out of coolant and the whole engine just threw its toys out and revved up and down and up and down and was just a mess!

Dad pulled out the tiny block, filled in the pitting which was allowing coolant into the sump (and thus draining the tank) with metal filled epoxy and job was a good un.  It ran for a further two years before it got rammed by an SUV and totalled.  This brought about the saga of the Berlingo, again the brutally basic one.

I'm with John any peugeot we ever had was a pile of rubbish

My dad spent £3500 over about 5 years on his 405 engine.....

What I really like too is the 1994 impala SS:

Very true, the old one is a 1940 chevy with 85hp

That was my dads second restoration. His first was a 1964 chevelle, and now a 93 corvette.

tmuir

Thats a bargain.

What was wrong with it? The ones I've seen for sale in OZ want about $40 000 OZ for them.
Nick

It was built on a car building show called Monster Garage. All of their builds on Tuesday's auction were going for less than $10,000.  Check the show out here:
http://www.monstergarage.com/home.php
Nick

They had a car/jetboat from the show that only got $9000. I bet they weren't expecting these prices for their tv history.

That's quite a bargain if it's working!

always fancied a range rover classic- 3.9 v8
body of a series 2 a landy on a defender- best of boath worlds would b gd

wen we had 2 series 3s i was planing on useing 1 as my first car but i could not find anyone that would insure a 17 year old in a 2.25 petrol!- even tho you would only be going about 50 mph
Minor1PJG

I had the same problem Roundy so my first car was a Fiesta

My third car was a Land Rover Series 3 though:lol:
Roundy

I found that as nice as it would be to run an old landy- they can be a pain and u caan spend lots of time lying under the bloody thing at the weekends.
and u rle wouldnt want to be in an accident in an old landy- u r the crumple zone- i nearly did- we had a wheel bearing collapse on the m3 and it pulled across 3 lanes of motorway traffic- s**t scary.

Not bad for something that probably weighs a few tonnes!

I believe the long bed crew cabs (as shown above) weight close to 10000 pounds.
johnreid

I have owned my share of full sized pickups, but mostly for work purposes. Those dualies will pull a trailer like none other. It is a little impractical for a drive to the store or general errands. However mine were usually GMC, I miss my last full size, it was a 3/4 ton 4X4 K2500 Sierra. It had the V8 and all, but still got around 18 mpg on the highway. I dont need a big truck any more so I now drive the mini pick up.
It all has to do with what you do with the vehicle. Some people need a truck, some dont.
TE1A_man

what makes me angry is when someone who lives in a suburban home drives a huge suv or pickup truck. I guess its ok if your a handyman, but a soccermom does not need a full sized suv to pick up groceries. why don't they drive regular cars, so people who drive suv's or pickups to pull or haul don't need to worry so much about pollution.
