First Double HeaderHere is my first effort at a double header (Zaphod for the HHGttG fans)....
And Arthur showing he never needed the help anyway. This is the most he has ever pulled and all the rolling stock I have got...
Arthur was struggling to keep going for long, I think I trimmed the wicks just a bit too short, so need to sort that out. Unfortunately the repair to the wick burner I made on Ford (or Prefect, or Ford Prefect yet to decide) broke, so I either need to re-repair or get another burner.

Looks good Chris! you haven't got a great surface there for running loco's on I must say should concrete over it

Certainly is a strong puller, Chris. I see MM's point, though. With all those
wood chips I thought you might thrill us with a fiery derailment.
What sort of beast was that was chittering away at the end of the second vid?
I think he was pissed off at the train being in his territory.

Dunno oldstuff, either a bird of some sort, or one of the neighbours children.
It was concrete, well paving slabs, but I took them all up and put woodchips down as they look nicer and I thought they would make a nice play surface for when our baby gets bigger. The surface is not bad actually as you can heap them up or scrape them away to get it flatter. It is also soft if the locos do fall over. You do get the odd one on the track though, but they generally stop the loco instead of derail it.
I was going to build a short garden railway, but I couldn't face doing the work right now. I have done a fair amount of work on the garden and we have just finally finished decorating the house. So time for a breather.
What didn't come through on the video was the lovely chuff-chuff that arthur was making pulling all the rolling stock on his own. Not really heard him chuff-chuff before so that was good. Obviously not been working him hard enough.

Love it Chris - very stylish!
I like your naming scheme - guess you've got room for a few more locos, although I'm not really sure if "Slartibartfast" is a suitable name

One to save for a leaky steamer.

I see your point Chris! I suppose it does help if you get a derailment
You get the 'chuff' noise when the regulator is quite far open I've had it with Rosa a long time back but she kind of wanted to go too fast so I closed it like a wuss

Looks great Chris .
that sounded like a magpie in the back ground I heard one sound like that having a go at a cat when we was living in swansea.

also added the inline oiler Tony got for me. will put pics up tomorrow nealy time for bed here.

I worry about boiling these locos dry. I try and remember to check the water level each time I top up the meths, but it is easy to forget and they seem to get through water fairly quick.

yes its surprising how quick the boiler emties. needs a biger capacity boiler I recon
I have put a topup valve on mine so should have toped it when i toped the meths up Ill remember next time

It doesn't need a bigger boiler, just keep an eye on the water level Or every time you add meths add a bit of water aswell just incase!
without filling the burners up mid-run you end up with half the water left over

I'm always take care with the water level.

You have to!
Especially if you have a good meths burner and you top them up
