My first engine is the little loco I'm building at the moment!
I've never had any steam toys (deprived childhood) Although my Brother had a Mamod TE1. Which ran downhill once and tipped out the contents of it's burner tray, burning off some of the black paint on the firebox. Thats still around though.

no its all the boiler fittings (motion bracket and chimney) that are spewing steam. How the heck did they rivet thost chimneys on?

They are a beautiful engine, and nice runner. They are also Australian made, which was originally the only reason I bought it - at the time I knew nothing about steam engines, so one locally made seemed like a good place to start

Those Steamco engines always look nice.
I guess that's why they bring such good money.

Mine was a Wilesco D10 which I sold to get my Fleischmann, and I do not regret it in the least bit.

The shelf price for them in Perth now is about $250 which is less than a Mamod.
Toy steam just costs more in oZ.
They are also made of heavier gauge brass than Mamods, silver soldered, cast iron flywheel and very well made.

Well worth investing in one?

That's what I meant, there build quality is very nice.
I have been watching them, hoping to pick one up.

I sure liked the looks of Rogers, if you can find one at a reasonable price you would not regret getting it. Real nice.

I watched one in very poor condition bring over $100.

Was that the burnt one?
That one wasn't worth more than $40 at most.
They do sometimes come up on ebay US and can go for very reasonable prices.
I got mine new for around $170 of ebay but I waited about 2 months for that when a seller listed one every week.

My first engine(s) were a MM1 & MM2 bought locally (as we say OZ), about 40 km away about 8-9 years ago. From there the collecrtion has blossomed as my bank account has withered, .

Followed by D21 (new)
It has been an obsession ever since. Just got a real vintage Wilesco D12. A real find. Got w/ an M52 & M53 with it, all like new. (after cleaning off thick dust, and polishing it) Has the weight style whistle. How old would it have to be to have the weight style? I will post a picture as soon as I find out what the wife did with the camera.
It looks like it just came out of the box!!
