THis Friday saw the first forum South Wales steamup at the house of Moose....in attendance were Dauntless, Atticman and Atticman Sr (both old Cardiffians) and yours truly, plus assorted Mooselings.
The day began with Dauntless arriving at 10....after a quick coffee we went straight in at the deep end, steaming the superb Goliath slide valve TEwith which I am now in love....many an engine followed, with the highlights that stick in my mind Dauntless' Mastrand running like a trooper after we'd freed up the safety valve, and my Mersey 54R running better than it ever had...Mrs Moose provided us with bacon butties, and the time literally flew past. At about 4 Atticman and Atticman Sr arrived, and we wasted no time but dived straight in, at one time having a great SE3 tandem run, had the Bowman Bryant going, swapped parts between Wilsons, admired Atticman senior's splendid Stuart engine, actually got Goliath to pull a Stuart dynamo....
We were going to go out for a meal, but then decided not to waste time sitting in an eaterie if we could be steaming instead, Atticman Sr shouted us a massive Chinese takeaway, which disappeared rather rapidly....when Atticman and I came back in from collecting this the smell of meths hit us like a brick....
The day literally flew past, and before we knew what had happened it was past ten, and time for people to hit the road....Dauntless made a great comment...he said "You know, I'd said I'd probably be back home at about 5!"
I've probably missed out loads, but in short it was a brilliant day with a bunch of great guys....so a massive thanks to all who attended for making this happen, and a special thanks to Mrs Moose for her extreme tolerance!
Here's to the next one!
Below is a compilation of random bits of video I took during the day, and some pictures.

Boy, that looks like so much fun. Thanks for posting the video and pictures, I want to see more. Paul? Tom?

What a fantastic day it was for me and my Dad as well,
Set off way later than Id wanted, but followed my nose and got to within 30 yards of the Moose house without Satnav.
Im sure it was the meths smell that got me so near actually.
Great to meet Paul, for the first time, Odilon as ever and Mooses family (and extremely tolerant Mrs ).
Within a few minutes the Moose table cloth was full, and we were off
2 SE3s and Mooses lovely Stuart fitted up to the most stonking Bowman marine engine were up and running.
Stunned by Pauls Goliath- what a machine- really really nice
Mooses collection was such a surprise as well, Im sure hes sneaked a lot in without us knowing- beauties all, even the "Cocktail shaker"
cant often be a day when 2 Wilsons 2 Mastrands and 2 Merseys are together and 5 out of 6 of them fired.
A few pics, the vids will be up tomorrow, pennace for a day out
All too soon it was time to go- Im sure meths fumes speed clocks up by a factor of 3 at least.
Both my Dad and I are really grateful for a truly memorable day out, great thanks to Moose and his lovely family for hosting us
Finally, guess how many times Goliath was fired???

Just a guess but
Mooseman lives close to his own house , as does Dauntless. Tom isn't too far away either
Looks like a grand day. Thats what this forum is all about!

Here is my report,
I arrive at the House of Moose at 10am, after a coffee and a chat, plus a mauling by Gizmo Moose's Cat!
We soon got into the Steaming Mood, Goliath was first up, then after drooling at the collection we settled on running Moose's Mersey 54r beautiful! closely followed by the Falk which after a small flareup and additional scorching to the Steam Towel ran well. Until a small screw on the valve gear came adrift and brought the engine to a juddering halt, after repairs all was well once again the the house of moose!
Lunch then followed Bacon Sarnies with crisps and Pepsi!
The afternoon went rapidly Getting My Mastrand running, First run since I bought it a few years back, Moose soaked the sezed safety valve in some release agent for a few hours and it ran beautifully!
Then onto mt SE3 running with a workshop, when it wasnt throwing its chain off! But after some ideas we came up with a design mod that I will be make and the fruits of our thinking will be posted up for all to see! (if it works! )
Later on Tom (atticman) and his Dad arrived and we soon had Tandem SE3's running More Goliath running, and Running Tom's Mersey (first run since Tom bought it) Getting parts off Moose's Wilson to run Tom's, Seeing Tom's Dad's Stuart Engine and more Goliath running a workshop and the Stuart Dynamo but not fast enough for a bulb to light but enough to light an LED!
Plus we had a lovely Chinese Takeaway!
Anyway enough of my stories here are some pics and a video!
Atticman
One or 2 more vids from me

Hey Rog, do you recognize the little white container in the first picture in Atticman's post?
We went through a fair bit of the green stuff!

I do indeed...I think it started life as vitamin bottle, amazed it still has anything in it given your regular steamings (or have you refilled it). Funny, but I picked up a quart of each of the two key Green Velvet oils about 5 years ago and have sprinkled little bottles of it around the world...and still have half of each quart left!
Wouldn't run my engines without the stuff!
Rog
ps...Odilon, could you possibly ID who was who in the videos?? I figured out who the dad was, but Dauntless and Atticman need sorting!!!
MooseMan
There's still a fair bit in that bottle Rog - a little goes a LOOOONG way. When I run out I'll order a quart and redistribute like you have
ID's:
Paul (Dauntless): blue jeans, green edged black tee shirt.
Tom (Atticman) : striped shirt
John (Atticman Sr) : older gent
Yours truly (Mooseman): black shirt and jeans.
Also visinle here and there: Daniel (Mooseling Jr) and Gizmo (MooseCat)

Wow guys looks like a good day was had by all, brilliant vids and pictures thanks
MooseMan
Yep, it was a bloody great day, so great that I now have the post-steamup blues....running your engines on your own is just not as much fun. Got to have another one soon! (not too soon, Mrs Moose's legendary tolerance has limits )
