Flatbase Minor 2

My Brass flywheeled Flatbase Minor 2 arrived this morning. I am very pleased with it! Firebox paint is in very good condition with some scorching around the top, most of the lacquer is still in place (groan). Although the burner has been repainted (sorry James) as can be seen below:





As you can see there are a couple of specs of green around the top. It also has been poorly redone...

MTA just before I get to the engine. Why are your pictures so dark? I can't see the engine, well most of it. Could you take the snaps outside or nearer the window and avoid shadows etc?

The MM2 looks really good (from what I can see). You may be able to remove that 'repaint' with some white spirit looks like the original paint is underneath

Fair enough MM! I can see them OK... The patio is soon to be turned into my photo studio then I'll probably be running her this afternoon. Possibility of a video if I can find some batteries!

Thanks Steve Steamed it up an hour ago. Went very well, I used the safety valve from the MM2 Twin as that was going to be steamed afterwards. Clattered a fair bit, sounds a lot like my MM1. Albeit louder and without the 'hammer' effect. I couldn't get a vid as there was not a single battery to be found in the house! The MM2 Twin was also steamed up, very impressed. Sounds just like a sewing machine

You didn't picture or film it?

Shame, but i'm glad they both ran well mate . Would have been good to see some picture though

Nice one Simon, I like those little MM2's, plenty of brassssssss. I always get a bit nervous firing mine up with out a bung in the meths tank, so always borrow one from another burner.

Thanks Chris. I was slightly worried too about not having anything in the hole in the meths tank. Just in case an exceptionally hot piece of oil got in there or something along those lines! I really must get a syringe for the meths though, fed up of meths going everywhere now

Should be ok without a bung. There isn't a high risk of vapours catching light anyway.

If you do use a bung, make sure it has a tiny hole in it

I use a Mamod funnel for putting meths in, not easy but I CBA to get a syringe

... great little machine. Light's coming from up front, that's why it's a tick dark. A flash would do okay. But: I'm looking forward to the video!
