Fleischmann 122/4 has arrived!

Alright, the engine has arrived  . The engine arrived safe and sound, and i inspected it and it seems like it was sitting a basement for 30+ years, when i tried out the engine on air i noticed all the air wasn't making it to the engine, so likely a steam line clog, some of the parts were very stiff especially the whistle, but oil does wonders the drain valves is still frozen though, and im not surprised, there is tons of calcium buildup in  the boiler, when i didn't put the air nozzle directly in the boiler hole, white powder came out of the boiler, so that's what's probably clogging the steam line as well. Alright lets get to the pictures.

decal still in great condition

The engine is in great mechanical condition, it just need to be cosmetically restored, but the base does have some surface rust.

vinegar works wonders
glad to see it arrived safe

Vinegar water can help with the lime in the boiler.
Do a good cleaning and get it running before trying anything else I bet you will like it.

Thanks for the advice, and I'm starting to see where wilesco got their ideas from
johnreid

I prefer Fleischmann over Wilesco. But yes there are many similarities that Wilesco used, as Fleischmann used ideas from Doll etc.

That's a handsome engine.  I'm sure you'll get it looking good in no time!

That will clean up nice

Nice engine
Les

It doesn't look too bad at all, they do clean up well and usually run like the clappers, and if you are wondering yours is a c1963 model.

Thanks for the info. I have a question, what kind finish on the boiler? Is it some kind of heat treatment, or something along those lines? Also, what's the best idea for cleaning these boilers,(on the outside) if they have a special finish that requires special needs?
johnreid

They are blued, IMHO just a damp rag

Hi, after the first run the crank became unscrewed(probebly because i was putting the engine in reverse a lot), and the timing is way off, and the cam is slipping any advice?
johnreid

I will try and photograph mine showing alignment of the Connecting rods tomorrow, too dark now but I believe there should be sunshine tomorrow.
