Fleischmann 122/4 THE EAGLE HAS LANDED

As many know, I bought a Fleischmann 122/4 from redryder.
As a matter of interest and sharing the anticipation and I do mean ANTICIPATION. The wait is killing me
I have decided to share the experience the best I can.
To start, refer to this thread in the FOR SALE section
http://modelsteam.myfreeforum.org/about8881.html

Paypal was put into service and Gil packed it and sent it off via Fed Ex Ground.

There is a tracking number, which I will edit for reasons that Fed Ex and UPS both do not like anyone other than the Shipper and the Recipient to access the number.

Here is the progress to date

This shows it was dropped off and shipped yesterday and that delivery is expected tomorrow.
Most often Fed Ex comes to my road around 4:00 in the afternoon unless there is a local business that is receiving a package. Fed Ex Overnight is delivered via a big Fed Ex Truck, but ground is delivered via a sub contractor. It is pure misery to see the Big Fed Ex truck go by two times a day and still wait for the Minivan

I will check the tracking info later tonight and post any progress if it shows any and do so tomorrow morning also. Expect pictures as it arrives.

Just noticed, 14 pounds?!!, Gil, did you drain the boiler that sucker is heavy!
To sum all of this up, Ho Ho Ho, Santa is coming to town tomorrow
 Christmas!

insert obligatory celebrant bananas here

Nick

John, thanks for posting, I have been waiting for the arrival of this one. What time of the day tomorrow do you think it'll arrive?
Nick

Oh yeah,

Just hope the bananas keep out of the way.
redryder

Sorry guys. It will not arrive tomorrow.
I did not plan this but yesterday a meeting with a client ran overtime and I got home too late. Today is when I dropped it at FedEx Kinkos. The truck picks it up at Kinkos this evening to bring to the FedEx terminal. Tomorrow you should see all of this. I printed the ship label at home Sunday evening, fully intending to drop it yesterday. The 122/4 does not weigh 14 lbs.

Well the weight is reduced to 13.3 pounds still a bit hefty in my thoughts. It is in New York now and by tomorrow it should be in Columbus. the out for delivery on the 14th
I will update progress in the morning.
redryder

I hope it doen't lose more weight at every stop it makes.
redryder

THe 122/4 does not weigh 13.3 lbs either.
redryder

It is very well packed.
johnreid

Packed with lead weights?

Its all in the fun
I found a French Language YouTube of a 122/4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6DX5Ku0e5VM

I am still searching the web for more info
Nick

That video wasn't the best (too small), so I am hoping for a better one from you shortly. I can't wait!
Reid

That's a great looking engine!  Woot for the both of you.

What a nice guy (both of you, separately or in a deal).

The engine is a beauty.  I'd have bought that had I seen it.

Congrats!
Graham-Jilly

is it here yet is it here yet is it here yet
johnreid

IT shows no further progress this morning. I do not know how often they scan packages.
UPS gives you almost too much information sometimes, however Fed Ex was the first to offer tracking information Online. I have a friend who is an executive for Fed Ex and he is a very interesting individual.
USPS tracking is a joke, a waste of money unless worried about PayPal concerns.
Les

Be patient, it will arrive.
Nick

The worst tracking system to follow is USPS's, they only seem to update it for the first time when the package is already at your doorstep. They do at least let you know when they 1st shipped it, so you can gues where it is at.

Agreed.....   The USPS tracking is a joke. Especially for the person on the receiving end.
Les

Is it there yet.
Nick

It's only 8:38 am where John is, so I'm guessing it's not.
johnreid

USPS tracking is only good when you ship something paid for by PayPal on Ebay and youare scared that the recipient will claim he never got it. Most often the Postman will scan it when it delivers it and thus there is some kind of proof that it was delivered.

Guys,  It won't be there today. I dropped it yesterday at FedEx Ground.
2 business days should do it !

Gil
Nick

They also have the delivery confirmation option.

Well, our Australian friends are so confused, they so often think it is tomorrow!

Of course there is this thing called the International Date line, and I have stood in line on a date before, to get into the theater etc.
redryder

looks like it's in New Jersey.
johnreid

It has left New Jersey, next stop Wilmington Ohio or Columbus Ohio then it will head to Columbus In. or Florence Ky, I bet Florence.
Les

I go for Columbus then.
toxx

... you're building up tension just like Reid did!  It's a great engine, I'm sure you'll love it!!!

Oh, by the way: Directly translated, Fleischmann means

Meat Man.

 Says Tom
Nick

That explains why they're so beefy.
toxx

johnreid

I have done my research, It has involved Google Translation and three years of German in High School ( years 10 11 and 12 ) and I have found this information to be quite interesting.
My Jensen 25 boiler has these dimensions:
2-1/2 inch ( 6.25 cm ) x 6 inch (15.24 cm )

The Fleischman has a boiler of these dimensions:
2 1/2 inch  ( 6.25 cm )  x 6 1/2 inch ( 16.5 cm )

Note same diameter, but 1/2 inch longer!

I have been unable to find the bore and stroke of the piston and cylinder though. I am betting that it will at least pack as much punch as the 25, if so this will not be disappointing at all.
IndianaRog

John, all this Fleischmann talk caused me to dust off my 122/3 and give it a run last nite.  It was my birthday 47 years ago all over again.  I also ran a magnet over the boiler as someone suggested that blued finish might be done over steel.  I can confirm the boiler is brass with blue oxidized finish...but a bit of brass shows thru around the filler hole where that SV has been screwed in a couple of hundred times at least.

It clatters and it spits...but it goes like the wind.  I'm 10 years old again and I can picture it running on my nitestand between my brother's and my matching twin beds adorned with Roy Rogers bedspreads!!!  We decided the nitestand was a better place to run it after burning a spot in one of the bedspreads

Sweet memories.
johnreid

No NO dont burn the Roy Rogers bedspreads, that would be awful!

I have emailed several people and have looked at several pictures, I think this one might in fact be a Birthyear engine, thats old!
I guess there is an off chance that my 25 could also come from around 54
redryder

Lucky you didn't burn the house down. You must be a good engineer that does not leave his machines running alone.
IndianaRog

At the time my mom thought the big brown spot on the spread was not our brightest move.  Funny...then I would sit 6 inches from that boiler with bright shining eyes glued to it.  Now I sit 18 inches from it with safety glasses and a fire extinguisher handy!!  Somehow we survived our own lack of concern!!!

As for your Jensen 25 cast version...no way to pin it to an exact year that I know of unless it had a single year feature...so it DOES fall in the 1954 era...hence let it be a 1954 birthyear engine for you to accompany another from the same year made in Germany.

tracking update:

KEASBEY, NJ

Next scheduled tracking update: Feb 14, 2008

You should have it tomorrow John.

Gil
Nick

Roger, I must say that I loved reading your story. How great it must have been to have been allowed to play with one at such a young age.
johnreid

Good to know that the brown spots on the bed were from a Steam Engine

Well the Fleischmann has made it to Independence Kentucky, the Fed Ex Depot moved from Florence to Independence, probably across the street

Once it is there I do believe that it should make it here sometime today. the Ice is melting off of the street and the County plowed yesterday so the road is drivable. I will be keeping an eye on the front door all day waiting for it to arrive.
Nick

I hope it makes it John, I want to see it. (I have to hope for someone's engines to arrive, I haven't bought any for a week.)
johnreid

Update, as of 9:39AM, on Vehicle for Delivery.
Now every Vehicle that drives by perks my ears up!
Les

I've bought two and a stepper motor but thats the lot for this month, unless a SEL Lathe turns up.
johnreid

I went out to get some firewood from the woodpile that is on my Driveway and up pulls a big Fed Ex truck, the driver gets out and asks me " Do you know where the Moore residence is?"
He had an overnight package, when asked about the Fleischmann, he explained that he doesnt do the ground deliveries.
Arrgggggghhhh Still waiting
Les

You probably find yours has gone to the Moores residence!!!
johnreid

Not here yet, it is 3:35 I can hear each tick of the clock
johnreid

LOL the temperature outdoors is now 35° F 1.6° C and the ice is sliding off of the roof, I hear noises and think that someone is at the door. No sign if it yet though.
James

Hope you get it soon John!!
johnreid

Still not here, I bet they come soon, or maybe I should hunt up the Moores and offer to sell them some Esbit
IndianaRog

Jeez John, you have us all listening for the delivery man.

I'm thinking it will be a pretty sweet thing when it gets there...just remember those same guys are running all over creation delivering chocolates and flowers today, so might run later than normal.

I think every steam addict has felt what you're feeling today.  At least you've got online tracking so you know it should be today.

Les

Is it too late for today now.
johnreid

Not too late but getting to be late, almost 5:30PM and no sign of it yet. Maybe they are delivering Valentines.
redryder

Hope he doesn't make a mistake and bring you a dozen roses!

Gil
johnreid

Chocolates would be good, still no Fleischmann
redryder

Is that truck here yet??????
Les

There's always tomorrow.  Dance!
redryder

Where is that @#^&*!% truck ???
redryder

It's on the truck.
THEY WANT TO GET IT OFF THE TRUCK....!!!!
Les

redryder wrote:

But where is the @#^&*!% truck.
redryder

must be up the @#^&*!% road.
redryder

They NEED that box off the truck.
The driver wants to go home with an empty truck.
johnreid

Quote:

my @#^&*!% words exactly

The last Fed Ex package I got, I had to drive to Kentucky to get it.
I think that at 6:22 it is late enough to say the driver has gone home. Wonder if he wants to buy some Esbit?
redryder

I can picture it.....

              sweaty palms......

                            increased heart rate.......
Les

redryder wrote:

And thats just the driver.
johnreid

LOL it is dark now, I left the front Door lights on for a while but I bet the driver did not want to drive a little farther for one package. Was it to be signature required?
IndianaRog

Keep the faith John, I have had those drivers knock on my door at 8 pm in total darkness...even had a delivery once on Christmas Day!
redryder

I did not request signature required.
I insured it for 250 or 300 and I don't think FedEx requires it until it is over 500.

Gil
Les

Is there yet, as I am about to go to bed.
redryder

I just called FedEx and was told that they will deliver up until 8 pm.
She also told me that your delivery had not yet been attempted. I assured her that if an attempt was made it would have been completed as you are wauting for it.

Heck we are all waiting!

Gil
johnreid

Not yet, I decided that since it was after 7:00 I would turn the lights off.
redryder

They will deliver up until 8.
johnreid

I have the lights on still, How does Cary Simons song go?

Anticipation
kusuchi

Good old Carly.

Good luck John, yours should be the first to arrive,  but in the words of Dianna Ross....

'I'm still waiting'

Hope it arrives soon.
redryder

I have punched in your tracking number enough that I've got it  memorized.
johnreid

You need the Firefox extension TrackPackage, it makes it so easy, just a click and you are there.

Not here yet, but I will check the door step again  just in case.

Local weather delay, delivery attempted

Delivery was never attempted, the road is clear, but it is no big deal as there is always tomorrow. I will get my errands run early so that I will be home to watch for it.

What the heck I can get my post count up even higher keeping us updated
James

Ahh cack!

Sorry to hear it John

I know for sure you'll love it when it arrives though
Nick

I was hoping to come home to your new Fleischmann, but I see it didn't make it yet.

I will be watching tomorrow up until 10:30am here, or 11:30 am there.
Les

I'm up again now so I can share the delivery with you.
Nick

I have a feeling I will miss the delivery because I have to work at 11:00 am (noon where John is) and won't be back until 10 or 11pm.
Les

Is this what your waiting for John??

8:58 AM On FedEx vehicle for delivery

I have been out running errands and just like yesterday the roads are dry, I hope there is no weather exception today.
Les

Won't be long now.
Nick

I'm waiting John.
Les

ncseverson wrote:

O good. You haven't missed it.
johnreid

I would bet that it will come around 4:00 this afternoon or a bit later I am out on the farther area from the Fed Ex Depot. Plus they deliver to businesses first then deliver to houses last.
Nick

I guess I won't see it until about 11:00 tonight. I don't know if I can wait that long.
johnreid

ME neither
Nick

I think I need to buy something, so I can torture you guys with my wait.
Nick

John, I'm headed for work in about 15 minutes and I   expect  pictures when I get home. That gives you 12 hours.
Les

ncseverson wrote:

I have two to come from the States.
johnreid

Its not here yet, if there are no pictures by the time you get home, it will be Fed Exs fault

Expect poor quality pictures as my camera doesnt do as well with indoor lighting.
Nick

Poor pictures are better than none.
Nick

This thread is already 7 pages long and you don't even have it. Just think how long it will be after you get it.
Nick

Sure, I get an hour break from work and was hoping to come home to the engine, where is it John?
johnreid

According to the tracking info, it is
Quote:

On FedEx vehicle for delivery
Nick

I've got a half hour left, will it make it? Probably not.
redryder

John,
How was the weather and road conditions yesterday and how are they today?
I notice FedEx claimed attempted delivery weather delay.
