Flywheel removal

Hi
I have what I think is a Mamod Minor 1 engine and I am trying to remove the flywheel. There are no grub scews or anything. Im wondering if there is any trick to taking it off or do I just have to use brute force?

Hi welcome to the forums

Grip the end stamped mamod with some pliers or grips etc

Then twist (while pulling) the fywheel by hand it should after a few turns come loose and "unscrew" off the crank shaft.

They are just a tight fit and may not go back on very well without some loctite or araldite

Cheers MM

Kye - as MM say just grip and pull. Hold the crank, (remove piston and con rod first), then hold flywheel - twist and pull. Some times they can be stubborn! Let us know how you get on mate, maybe post some pictures of your expoloits . . .

Welocme!

Why did they make them with a friction fit? Cheaper? Safer?

It's a bit of a pain when you want to take them apart!

Cheaper and takes less time.
The flywheels on my Scorpions are friction fit as well.
Real pain as I dont dare take them off to clean the engine.

All you do is push them on, less chance of it coming loose under steam aswell!
