It's the moderators doing their usual good job. Popular forums attract spam bots which are pieces of software that automatically register with forums as a new member and then start posting spam and sending PM messages. Our mods do a good job of cleaning these things up mostly before we spot anything.
Thanks guys!

Spot on.
Most of the spammers are taken out by Wallace who checks out all applications for membership.
Any blatantly obvious ones are taken out by Tony or James as well.
It's because of their vigilance and good work we remain spam free.
A lot of forums suffer badly from spammers, but as I've stated we don't tolerate them at all.

Nothing to worry about Cranko
MC got it spot on. I did a cleanout this afternoon. Quite often we get spambots who if let in would fill this forum with spam.
Also many of these spambots have websites in their profile. If you see one never click it.
Roughly 2 - 3 spammers a day are deleted.
EDIT
Doh, SM beat me to it

You mean that none of the postings we make can be called spam then?
Thats a relief cos I thought my messages were nearing spam like amounts

There are a lot of members who like to browse the forum, but don't post a lot.
We are lucky to have as many regular posters as we have.
A lot of forums would give their eye teeth to have the amount of interest we have.
Speaking for myself, I lurked in the background on the old forum for months until I plucked up the courage to post.
Now, you can't get rid of me.

Its pretty standard for on any forum for about 5% of members to make 80% of the posts and maybe only have 10 to 15% of members regular posters with other just posting now and then and sum never posting.
But thats fine aslong as everyone learns something or finds out what they want to know we can't ask more than that.

Thanks guys for the explanation, I have little knowledge of all thinks internet. It is interesting looking through the membership list and noting that possibly 50% of all members have not posted at all. I mean, WHY Join , why not just be an unlisted looker

Easy, 1) you get to see the 'members only' sections and 2) people forget what they called themselves, or their password and have to join again. I think I've joined the Yahoo group 3 times because I couldn't remember what I'd called myself. Now I stick to the same name and password for nearly everything.
