Fred Dibnah Statue unveiled in Bolton

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/manchester/7373440.stm

I thought a few of the members here would be interested to see an article on BBC news regarding Fred Dibnah statue in Bolton.

I would have thought they'd have modelled him with a pint of beer in one hand, standing infront of his traction engine with the typical broad schoolboy grin!
pauly

I dont think its a good likeness of him
Minor1PJG

It looks NOTHING like him
johnreid

His brother likes it

hmmm

well it kinda looks like him...then again...
Sandman

Whoever sculpted that must have been blind.

That will never be a likeness of Fred.
Les Marsh

I agree, it is nothing like him.
pauly

it looks just like him.

if he had fallen down 6 flights of stairs then gained a couple pounds

He was a great and kind man and they cant even be bothered to hire a decent sculptor
toxx

... naaa, I know him from various vids, and Jim's avatar. That statue doesn't come very close.
James

Guys, it might not look just like him, BUT it's STILL a memorial to Fred. There's not much chance of him ever getting forgotten now, wether it looks like him or not.

I for one am proud to say I contributed towards it!
James

My avatar is of Fred in the late 70s though!
toxx

... right you are, Jim. It's the memory that counts.
bessytractor

I agree with James, as long as its a passing likeness, and the man is remembered, so be it.
toxx

... aye!
pauly

thats true but they could of at least done a good job
Minor1PJG

Absolutely I was a big fan of the man, the type that makes you proud to be British

Kind, gentle, eccentric, proud of his roots and a vintage motorcycle rider too.  Top drawer
made-in-england

a nice thought but i agree with paully...
steamyjim

It's brillant that they have a memorial to him.

But surely they could make it a bit more realistic...and maybe even out of his favourite materia-Iron?

Anyone notice the chav just wanting to get on TV?

I agree that it looks nothing like him, but I also agree that a memorial that doesn't look him his better than no memorial at all...
johnreid

I watched the video again and think the statue is of his Brother
James

Kill the chav

alright then  Shooting

but seriously if they hadnt made his neck so fat and gave him a slightly smaller gut it would be a very good likeness
James

The peak on his cap looks too short!
Lewis

They have finally done it !

A tribute to a great bloke
James

Aye lad!! All the selling Sheila did on ebay, all the nights she put shows on to raise money, it's all been worth while!
