You might need codecs to play DVDs, though (dunno: won't touch windows media player because I loath the thing).

I use the K-lite codec pack (full version suffices)
Along with Zoom player - free edition
And sometimes the VLC player for some formats that Zoom doesn't like
I like Zoom because it does one thing and does it well: plays movies. It doesn't try to be your mp3 library, online music store, cd-burning front end, or any other rubbish.

yes, WMP comes with dvd codecs, but i suggest K-lite codec pack, too. A lot more stable, especially with media player classic.

Thanks for the tips, Mark.
Windows Media Player is so stupid at times.
I'm going to download Zoom now--have VLC, which is a fine adjunct player.
