I would love to go to something like that, the only problem is is that I can't get there. Dad doesn't like travelling too long distances for the toys.

He will HAVE to be persuaded to drive to Leicester and Lincoln next year David

Remember to take millins of photos, because I would LOVE to drive there, but I think it's a bit far

It's nearer than Tilford and he drives there.

Alas I cannot make it as I am at Portland this weekend but have a great time.

Its all taking shape at GMES ready for the weekend, the SMSEG display is set up in the marquee and I've just cleaned a few Mamod stationary engines ready to put out on the stand tomorrow morning.

Looking forward to seeing some of you there - lets hope it does not rain too much!

Got to say that's the best event I've been to, what a variety. The setting is great being a purpose built site with all guages of trains flying about. Some nice steam boats, ride on traction engines and good trade support. I think the only thing missing and bear in mind this is a family show with plenty of children, is a toy steam trade stand, I'm sure they'd sell.

Well done the the GMES for putting on such a good show

I can only second what gremlin said....

Very well though out and what a variety of model engineering, not just trains (although the sheer size of 7 1/4 shocked me a bit) but gas engines, stirling and hot air engines, stationaries, mamods, boats, tractione engines, steam lorries and not to mention all the trade stands and garden railway/16mm layouts .....

What a wonderfull day was had by all the family will definately go again, and should have some pics at some point (not the best in the world though   )

UPDATE : Here they are ...

It was a great weekend.  I only managed to get there for Sunday afternoon but I thoroughly enjoyed it     It was good to catch up with a few familiar faces too

Despite the weather, I had a great time. It was great to meet Paul & Jordan, Mike & Andy and Will once again. See you again on the 23rd August

My search for good quality BA taps was fruitless, but I suspect I shall just buy a set rather than individual taps.

I took a small selection of pics, but I hope you like them.

A very nice line up of locos, from L to R: Scratchbuilt Alco 'Mountaineer', scratchbuilt Sentinel type loco, another scratchbuilt loco, Merlin 0-6-0 and a Roundhouse Bertie.

A very nice Isle of Man coach, made from two Accucraft IoM 4 wheeled coaches.

What I think should have won, a very nice part built 5" gauge Gresley N2. Even though not finished she looks beautiful, with standards to match.

Another winner for me, a South African Railways 2-8-4 (I think!)

One of the new Accucraft Welshpool & Llanfair Beyer Peacocks was running on the portable track.

A close up of the Mountaineer, this engine won 'Model of the Year' at the 16mm Association's annual show.

Another fine exhibit, a 5" gauge 'Cock O'The North'.

I like the "very highly commended" tag on the N2. I couldn't agree more.
Sandman

Some great pics there guys.
Rob

cracking photos simon.

lovely model of the N2, i had a footplate ride on the newley restored GNER N2 on the great central owned by the gresley society.
Keith S

I have a question about the N2, what is the giant pipe coming out of the water tank and going into the smokebox?

the Gresley N2's where condensing loco's as they where used on the metropolitan lines (i think) so could not exhaust steam into the tunnels as there where no air shafts (so i have been told).

at first, they had injector troubles as the water in the tanks would become too hot for them to pick up.

the N2 owned by the Gresley Society, has the condensing pipes fitted but are not connected up so can no longer condense steam.
